महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-8, chapter-24, verse-27

तां प्राप्य त्रैपुरस्थास्तु सर्वाँल्लोकान्बबाधिरे ।
महता तपसा सिद्धाः सुराणां भयवर्धनाः ।
न तेषामभवद्राजन्क्षयो युद्धे कथंचन ॥२७॥
27. tāṁ prāpya traipurasthāstu sarvāँllokānbabādhire ,
mahatā tapasā siddhāḥ surāṇāṁ bhayavardhanāḥ ,
na teṣāmabhavadrājankṣayo yuddhe kathaṁcana.

lokān babādhire mahatā tapasā siddhāḥ
surāṇām bhayavardhanāḥ na teṣām
abhavat rājan kṣayaḥ yuddhe kathaṃcana
27. rājan tām prāpya traipurastāḥ tu mahatā tapasā siddhāḥ surāṇām bhayavardhanāḥ sarvān lokān babādhire,
yuddhe teṣām kathaṃcana kṣayaḥ na abhavat
27. Having acquired that (pond), those residing in Tripura, who had achieved great power (siddhi) through severe asceticism (tapas) and were a cause of increasing fear for the gods, began to oppress all worlds. O king, there was never any destruction for them in battle by any means.
