महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-7, chapter-164, verse-71

ततो भीमो महाबाहुरनीके स्वे महागजम् ।
जघान गदया राजन्नश्वत्थामानमित्युत ॥७१॥
71. tato bhīmo mahābāhuranīke sve mahāgajam ,
jaghāna gadayā rājannaśvatthāmānamityuta.

71. O king, thereupon, the mighty-armed Bhima killed a great elephant in his own army with his mace. Its name was Ashwatthaman, it is said.
