The homa (fire ritual) for the ancestral Vedic ritual (pitṛyajña) is not prescribed in the ordinary (laukika) fire. A śrāddha is not performed without the darśa (new moon) tithi for an āhitāgni (one who maintains the sacred fires) twice-born man.
