One should properly perform the ancestral rites (pitṛyam-āniyādhanāt) with the sacred thread worn over the right shoulder and under the left arm (prācīnāvītinā), with great care (samyaɡ apasavyam atandriṇā), and with kusa grass in hand (darbhapāṇinā), according to the prescribed method (vidhivat).
