मनु-स्मृतिः       manu-smṛtiḥ - chapter-3, verse-171

दाराग्निहोत्रसंयोगं कुरुते योऽग्रजे स्थिते ।
परिवेत्ता स विज्ञेयः परिवित्तिस्तु पूर्वजः ॥१७१॥
171. dārāgnihotrasaṁyogaṁ kurute yo'graje sthite ,
parivettā sa vijñeyaḥ parivittistu pūrvajaḥ.

171. yaḥ agraje sthite dārāgnihotrasaṃyogaṃ kurute

171. He who performs the union of wife and fire-ritual (darāgnihotra saṁyoga) while his elder brother (agraje) is still unmarried, should be known as a parivettā (one who causes the offense). The elder brother himself is the parivitti (one who is the cause of the offense by not marrying first).
