मनु-स्मृतिः       manu-smṛtiḥ - chapter-3, verse-212

अग्न्यभावे तु विप्रस्य पाणावेवोपपादयेत ।
यो ह्यग्निः स द्विजो विप्रैर्मन्त्रदर्शिभिरुच्यते ॥२१२॥
212. agnyabhāve tu viprasya pāṇāvevopapādayet ,
yo hyagniḥ sa dvijo viprairmantradarśibhirucyate.
212. agny-abhāve tu viprasya pāṇāv eva upapādayet yaḥ hi
agniḥ saḥ dvijaḥ vipraiḥ mantra-darśibhiḥ ucyate
212. tu viprasya agny-abhāve pāṇāv eva upapādayet hi yaḥ
agniḥ saḥ dvijaḥ mantra-darśibhiḥ vipraiḥ ucyate
212. In the absence of fire, the offering should be made in the palm of the Brahmin. For the fire (agni) is indeed called a Brahmin by those who see the truth of the mantras.
