Just as the latter half of the lunar month (aparāḥ pakṣaḥ) is distinguished from the former half (pūrvapakṣāt), so the afternoon (aparāhṇo) is distinguished from the forenoon (pūrvāhṇāt) for a śrāddha (śrāddhasya).
