मनु-स्मृतिः       manu-smṛtiḥ - chapter-3, verse-169

अपाङ्क्तदाने यो दातुर्भवत्यूर्ध्वं फलौदयः ।
दैवे हविषि पित्र्ये वा तं प्रवक्ष्याम्यशेषतः ॥१६९॥
169. apāṅktadāne yo dāturbhavatyūrdhvaṁ phalaudayaḥ ,
daive haviṣi pitrye vā taṁ pravakṣyāmyaśeṣataḥ.

169. I will fully explain the fruit that accrues to the giver when a gift is not offered to an eligible recipient (apāṅkta), whether in a Vedic ritual (daiva) or in offerings to ancestors (paitrya).
