मनु-स्मृतिः       manu-smṛtiḥ - chapter-3, verse-144

कामं श्राद्धेऽर्चयेन मित्रं नाभिरूपमपि त्वरिम ।
द्विषता हि हविर्भुक्तं भवति प्रेत्य निष्फलम ॥१४४॥
144. kāmaṁ śrāddhe'rcayen mitraṁ nābhirūpamapi tvarim ,
dviṣatā hi havirbhuktaṁ bhavati pretya niṣphalam.

144. One may honor a friend during a śrāddha (ancestral rite) even if they are not a suitable match, but if the offering is consumed by an enemy, it becomes fruitless after death.
