महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-82, verse-49

षष्ठकालोपवासेन मासमुष्य महालये ।
सर्वपापविशुद्धात्मा विन्द्याद्बहु सुवर्णकम् ॥४९॥
49. ṣaṣṭhakālopavāsena māsamuṣya mahālaye ,
sarvapāpaviśuddhātmā vindyādbahu suvarṇakam.
49. ṣaṣṭha-kāla-upavāsena māsam uṣya mahā-ālaye
sarva-pāpa-viśuddha-ātmā vindyāt bahu suvarṇakam
49. By fasting according to the ṣaṣṭhakāla vow (eating only once every six periods or two days) and having dwelt for a month in a great temple (mahā-ālaya), a person whose inner self (ātman) is purified from all sins would obtain much gold.
