महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-59, verse-87

युगानामायुषो ह्रासं विज्ञाय भगवाञ्शिवः ।
संचिक्षेप ततः शास्त्रं महार्थं ब्रह्मणा कृतम् ॥८७॥
87. yugānāmāyuṣo hrāsaṁ vijñāya bhagavāñśivaḥ ,
saṁcikṣepa tataḥ śāstraṁ mahārthaṁ brahmaṇā kṛtam.

87. Having realized the diminishing lifespan (āyus) of the ages (yuga), the divine Lord Shiva (Śiva) then condensed that highly significant treatise (śāstra) which had been composed by Brahma (Brahmā).
