महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-107, verse-63

कृत्वा मूत्रपुरीषे तु रथ्यामाक्रम्य वा पुनः ।
पादप्रक्षालनं कुर्यात्स्वाध्याये भोजने तथा ॥६३॥
63. kṛtvā mūtrapurīṣe tu rathyāmākramya vā punaḥ ,
pādaprakṣālanaṁ kuryātsvādhyāye bhojane tathā.

63. After urinating and defecating, or after having stepped onto a street, one should perform foot-washing before (Vedic) recitation (svādhyāya) and eating.
