महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-6, chapter-55, verse-45

दृष्ट्वा हि समरे भीष्मं व्यात्ताननमिवान्तकम् ।
भयार्ताः संप्रणश्यन्ति सिंहं क्षुद्रमृगा इव ॥४५॥
45. dṛṣṭvā hi samare bhīṣmaṁ vyāttānanamivāntakam ,
bhayārtāḥ saṁpraṇaśyanti siṁhaṁ kṣudramṛgā iva.
45. dṛṣṭvā hi samare bhīṣmam vyāttānanam iva antakam
bhayārtāḥ sampraṇaśyanti siṃham kṣudramṛgāḥ iva
45. hi samare vyāttānanam antakam iva bhīṣmam dṛṣṭvā,
bhayārtāḥ kṣudramṛgāḥ siṃham iva sampraṇaśyanti
45. Indeed, upon seeing Bhishma in battle, appearing like Death (Antaka) with his gaping mouth, those afflicted by fear utterly perish, just as small deer flee from a lion.
