महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-326, verse-94

हंसो हयशिराश्चैव प्रादुर्भावा द्विजोत्तम ।
यदा वेदश्रुतिर्नष्टा मया प्रत्याहृता तदा ।
सवेदाः सश्रुतीकाश्च कृताः पूर्वं कृते युगे ॥९४॥
94. haṁso hayaśirāścaiva prādurbhāvā dvijottama ,
yadā vedaśrutirnaṣṭā mayā pratyāhṛtā tadā ,
savedāḥ saśrutīkāśca kṛtāḥ pūrvaṁ kṛte yuge.
94. haṃsaḥ hayaśirāḥ ca eva prādurbhāvau
dvijottama yadā vedaśrutiḥ
naṣṭā mayā pratyāhṛtā tadā savedāḥ
saśrutīkāḥ ca kṛtāḥ pūrvam kṛte yuge

94. O best of the twice-born (dvija), Haṃsa and Hayaśiras are indeed two manifestations. When the Vedic (śruti) was lost, it was then restored by me. Formerly, in the Kṛta Yuga, they were made complete with their Vedas and Śrutis.
