मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-51, verse-16

शुभाशुभं समाचष्टे कुशैस्तस्याङ्गताडनम् ।
काकादिपक्षिसंस्थोऽन्यः श्वादेरङ्गगतोऽपि वा ॥१६॥
16. śubhāśubhaṃ samācaṣṭe kuśaistasyāṅgatāḍanam .
kākādipakṣisaṃstho'nyaḥ śvāderaṅgagato'pi vā.
16. śubhāśubham samācaṣṭe kuśaiḥ tasya aṅgatāḍanam |
kākādipakṣisaṃsthaḥ anyaḥ śvādeḥ aṅgagataḥ api vā
16. A spirit reveals auspicious and inauspicious omens when its body is struck with Kuśa grass. Alternatively, another (kind of spirit) resides in crows and similar birds, or may even have entered the bodies of dogs and other animals.
