मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-34, verse-87

नोद्धूतोन्मत्तमूढैश्च नाविनीतैश्च पण्डितः ।
गच्छेन्मैत्रीं न चाशीलैर्न च चौर्यादिदूषितैः ॥८७॥
87. noddhūtonmattamūḍhaiśca nāvinītaiśca paṇḍitaḥ .
gacchenmaitrīṃ na cāśīlairna ca cauryādidūṣitaiḥ.
87. na uddhūtonmattamūḍhaiḥ ca na avinītaiḥ ca paṇḍitaḥ
gacchet maitrīm na ca aśīlaiḥ na ca cauryādidūṣitaiḥ
87. A wise person (paṇḍita) should not cultivate friendship with those who are arrogant, insane, or foolish, nor with the undisciplined, nor with those of bad character, nor with those tainted by theft and similar vices.
