मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-34, verse-12

पादञ्चात्मार्थमायस्य मूलभूतं विवर्धयेत् ।
एवमाचरतः पुत्र अर्थः साफल्यमर्हति ॥१२॥
12. pādañcātmārthamāyasya mūlabhūtaṃ vivardhayet .
evamācarataḥ putra arthaḥ sāphalyamarhati.
12. pādam ca ātma-artham āyasya mūlabhūtam vivardhayet

12. O son, the remaining quarter of one's income should be invested in the fundamental source of livelihood (mūlabhūta) for one's own benefit (ātman). For a person who conducts themselves in this way, wealth (artha) truly achieves its purpose.
