मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-34, verse-13

तद्वत् पापनिषेधार्थं धर्मः कार्यो विपश्चिता ।
परत्रार्थं तथैवान्यः काम्योऽत्रैव फलप्रदः ॥१३॥
13. tadvat pāpaniṣedhārthaṃ dharmaḥ kāryo vipaścitā .
paratrārthaṃ tathaivānyaḥ kāmyo'traiva phalapradaḥ.
13. tadvat pāpaniṣedhārtham dharmaḥ kāryaḥ vipaścitā |
paratrārtham tathā eva anyaḥ kāmyaḥ atra eva phalapradaḥ
13. Similarly, a wise person should perform their righteous actions (dharma) for the purpose of preventing sin. Likewise, another type of action, motivated by desire (kāmya karma) and yielding results in this very world, is also intended for the benefit of the afterlife.
