मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-23, verse-9

चिन्तयामास सा बाला मां श्रुत्वा निधनं गतम् ।
तत्याज जीवितं साध्वी धिङ्मां निष्ठुरमानसम् ॥९॥
9. cintayāmāsa sā bālā māṃ śrutvā nidhanaṃ gatam .
tatyāja jīvitaṃ sādhvī dhiṅmāṃ niṣṭhuramānasam.
9. cintayāmāsa sā bālā mām śrutvā nidhanam gatam
tatyāja jīvitam sādhvī dhik mām niṣṭhuramānasam
9. He thought, 'That virtuous young woman, having heard that I had died, gave up her life. Shame on me, the cruel-minded man!'
