मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-23, verse-12

मृतेति सा मन्नमित्तं त्यजामि यदि जीवितम् ।
किं मयोपकृतं तस्याः श्लाघ्यमेतत्तु योषिताम् ॥१२॥
12. mṛteti sā mannamittaṃ tyajāmi yadi jīvitam .
kiṃ mayopakṛtaṃ tasyāḥ ślāghyametattu yoṣitām.
12. mṛtā iti sā mannimittam tyajāmi yadi jīvitam kim
mayā upakṛtam tasyāḥ ślāghyam etat tu yoṣitām
12. If, declaring her dead, I were to abandon my life on her account, what service would I have rendered to her? Such an act is indeed praiseworthy for women.
