महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-8, chapter-17, verse-58

ते तस्य कवचं भित्त्वा पपुः शोणितमाहवे ।
आशीविषा यथा नागा भित्त्वा गां सलिलं पपुः ॥५८॥
58. te tasya kavacaṁ bhittvā papuḥ śoṇitamāhave ,
āśīviṣā yathā nāgā bhittvā gāṁ salilaṁ papuḥ.
58. te tasya kavacam bhittvā papuḥ śoṇitam āhave
āśīviṣāḥ yathā nāgāḥ bhittvā gām salilam papuḥ
58. āhave te tasya kavacam bhittvā śoṇitam papuḥ,
yathā āśīviṣāḥ nāgāḥ gām bhittvā salilam papuḥ
58. Having pierced his armor, those [arrows] drank his blood in battle, just as venomous snakes, having pierced the earth, drink water.
