महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-2, chapter-5, verse-15

कच्चित्संधिं यथाकालं विग्रहं चोपसेवसे ।
कच्चिद्वृत्तिमुदासीने मध्यमे चानुवर्तसे ॥१५॥

15. kaccitsaṁdhiṁ yathākālaṁ vigrahaṁ copasevase ,
kaccidvṛttimudāsīne madhyame cānuvartase.

kaccit vṛttim udāsīne madhyame ca anuvartase

15. I hope that you appropriately employ policies of peace (sandhi) and war (vigraha). And I hope that you maintain the correct conduct (vṛtti) towards neutral (udāsīna) and middle (madhyama) states.
