महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-2, chapter-5, verse-15

कच्चित्संधिं यथाकालं विग्रहं चोपसेवसे ।
कच्चिद्वृत्तिमुदासीने मध्यमे चानुवर्तसे ॥१५॥

15. kaccitsaṁdhiṁ yathākālaṁ vigrahaṁ copasevase ,
kaccidvṛttimudāsīne madhyame cānuvartase.

15. kaccit sandhim yathākālam vigraham ca upasevase
kaccit vṛttim udāsīne madhyame ca anuvartase

15. I hope that you appropriately employ policies of peace (sandhi) and war (vigraha). And I hope that you maintain the correct conduct (vṛtti) towards neutral (udāsīna) and middle (madhyama) states.

15. האם אתה נוקט בשלום ובמלחמה בעתם הראוי, ונוהג כראוי כלפי מי שעומד מן הצד וכלפי מי שנמצא באמצע?
