89. sthito'smīti ca gāṅgeyastacchrutvā vākyamabravīt ,
dhārayāmāsa ca prāṇānpatito'pi hi bhūtale ,
uttarāyaṇamanvicchanbhīṣmaḥ kurupitāmahaḥ.

Having heard that statement, Gāṅgeya (Bhīṣma) replied, 'I am remaining (alive)!' And indeed, though fallen on the ground, Bhīṣma, the grandfather of the Kurus, held onto his vital breaths (prāṇas), desiring the northern solstice (uttarāyaṇa).
