महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-83, verse-37

ततोऽवाप्य महापुण्यां पयोष्णीं सरितां वराम् ।
पितृदेवार्चनरतो गोसहस्रफलं लभेत् ॥३७॥
37. tato'vāpya mahāpuṇyāṁ payoṣṇīṁ saritāṁ varām ,
pitṛdevārcanarato gosahasraphalaṁ labhet.
37. tataḥ avāpya mahāpuṇyām payoṣṇīm saritām varām
pitṛdevārcanarataḥ gosahasraphalam labhet
37. Then, having reached the Payoṣṇī, an extremely sacred river and the best among rivers, a person devoted to the worship of ancestors and gods would obtain the merit of (giving) a thousand cows.
