महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-83, verse-83

यत्र गङ्गा महाराज स देशस्तत्तपोवनम् ।
सिद्धक्षेत्रं तु तज्ज्ञेयं गङ्गातीरसमाश्रितम् ॥८३॥
83. yatra gaṅgā mahārāja sa deśastattapovanam ,
siddhakṣetraṁ tu tajjñeyaṁ gaṅgātīrasamāśritam.
83. yatra gaṅgā mahārāja saḥ deśaḥ tat tapovanam
siddhakṣetram tu tat jñeyam gaṅgātīrasamāśritam
83. Where the Ganga (Gaṅgā) flows, O great king, that region is a hermitage (tapovanam). Indeed, that should be known as a holy place (siddhakṣetra), being situated on the bank of the Ganga.
