महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-83, verse-63

गङ्गायां तु नरः स्नात्वा ब्रह्मचारी समाहितः ।
विधूतपाप्मा भवति वाजपेयं च विन्दति ॥६३॥
63. gaṅgāyāṁ tu naraḥ snātvā brahmacārī samāhitaḥ ,
vidhūtapāpmā bhavati vājapeyaṁ ca vindati.

63. A man who bathes in the Gaṅgā, observing celibacy (brahmacarya) and with a focused mind, becomes cleansed of all sins and attains the merit of the Vājapeya sacrifice.
