महर्षे भवता प्रोक्तं फलं स्त्रीणां नृणां पृथक् ।
अधुना श्रोतुमिच्छामि त्वत्तो वेदविदांवर ॥१॥

O great sage (maharṣi), you have separately described the effects [of these marks] for women and men. Now, O most excellent among those who know the Vedas (vedavidāmvara), I wish to hear from you.
