महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-112, verse-93

भोजनं चोरयित्वा तु मक्षिका जायते नरः ।
मक्षिकासंघवशगो बहून्मासान्भवत्युत ।
ततः पापक्षयं कृत्वा मानुषत्वमवाप्नुते ॥९३॥
93. bhojanaṁ corayitvā tu makṣikā jāyate naraḥ ,
makṣikāsaṁghavaśago bahūnmāsānbhavatyuta ,
tataḥ pāpakṣayaṁ kṛtvā mānuṣatvamavāpnute.

93. A person, having stolen food, is born as a fly. He remains subject to a swarm of flies for many months. Then, having exhausted his sin (karma), he attains human status.
