महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-112, verse-29

बृहस्पतिरुवाच ।
आसन्नमात्रः सततं तैर्भूतैरभिभूयते ।
विप्रमुक्तश्च तैर्भूतैः पुनर्यात्यपरां गतिम् ।
स तु भूतसमायुक्तः प्राप्नुते जीव एव ह ॥२९॥
29. bṛhaspatiruvāca ,
āsannamātraḥ satataṁ tairbhūtairabhibhūyate ,
vipramuktaśca tairbhūtaiḥ punaryātyaparāṁ gatim ,
sa tu bhūtasamāyuktaḥ prāpnute jīva eva ha.
29. bṛhaspatiḥ uvāca āsannamātraḥ satatam
taiḥ bhūtaiḥ abhibhūyate vipramuktaḥ ca
taiḥ bhūtaiḥ punaḥ yāti aparām gatim saḥ
tu bhūtasamāyuktaḥ prāpnute jīvaḥ eva ha
29. bṛhaspatiḥ uvāca āsannamātraḥ satatam
taiḥ bhūtaiḥ abhibhūyate ca taiḥ bhūtaiḥ
vipramuktaḥ punaḥ aparām gatim yāti saḥ
tu jīvaḥ eva bhūtasamāyuktaḥ ha prāpnute
29. Bṛhaspati said: As soon as it comes into existence, it is constantly influenced by those elements (bhūtas). And when it is freed from those elements (bhūtas) (at death), it again goes to another state (gati). But that individual soul (jīva), endowed with the elements, indeed attains its destiny.
