महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-281, verse-36

यम उवाच ।
पिपासितस्येव यथा भवेत्पयस्तथा त्वया वाक्यमिदं समीरितम् ।
विना पुनः सत्यवतोऽस्य जीवितं वरं वृणीष्वेह शुभे यदिच्छसि ॥३६॥
36. yama uvāca ,
pipāsitasyeva yathā bhavetpaya;stathā tvayā vākyamidaṁ samīritam ,
vinā punaḥ satyavato'sya jīvitaṁ; varaṁ vṛṇīṣveha śubhe yadicchasi.
36. yamaḥ uvāca pipāsitasya iva yathā bhavet
payaḥ tathā tvayā vākyam idam
samīritam vinā punaḥ satyavataḥ asya
jīvitam varam vṛṇīṣva iha śubhe yat icchasi
36. Yama said: 'The words you have spoken are like water to a thirsty person. However, O auspicious one, choose any other boon you desire here, but without the life of this Satyavan.'
