महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-5, chapter-47, verse-70

अयं कवाटे निजघान पाण्ड्यं तथा कलिङ्गान्दन्तकूरे ममर्द ।
अनेन दग्धा वर्षपूगान्विनाथा वाराणसी नगरी संबभूव ॥७०॥
70. ayaṁ kavāṭe nijaghāna pāṇḍyaṁ; tathā kaliṅgāndantakūre mamarda ,
anena dagdhā varṣapūgānvināthā; vārāṇasī nagarī saṁbabhūva.

70. This one struck down the Pāṇḍya king at Kavāṭa and similarly crushed the Kaliṅgas at Dantakūra. By him, the city of Vārāṇasī was burned and remained without a protector for many years.
