योगवासिष्ठः       yogavāsiṣṭhaḥ - book-5, chapter-13, verse-53

चेत्येन रहिता यैषा चित्तद्ब्रह्म सनातनम् ।
चेत्येन सहिता यैषा चित्सेयं कलनोच्यते ॥ ५३ ॥
cetyena rahitā yaiṣā cittadbrahma sanātanam ,
cetyena sahitā yaiṣā citseyaṃ kalanocyate 53
53. cetyena rahitā yā eṣā cit tat brahman sanātanam
| cetyena sahitā yā eṣā cit sā iyam kalanā ucyate
53. yā eṣā cit cetyena rahitā,
tat sanātanam brahman (bhavati).
yā eṣā cit cetyena sahitā,
sā iyam kalanā ucyate
53. That consciousness (cit) which is devoid of any object of consciousness (cetyena rahitā) is indeed the eternal Brahman (brahman). Conversely, this same consciousness (cit), when accompanied by an object of consciousness (cetyena sahitā), is called mental activity (kalanā).
