मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-21, verse-76

स्त्रियाश्चापि विना भर्त्रा धर्मकामार्थसन्ततिः ।
नैव तस्मात् त्रिवर्गोऽयं दाम्पत्यमधिगच्छति ॥७६॥
76. striyāścāpi vinā bhartrā dharmakāmārthasantatiḥ .
naiva tasmāt trivargo'yaṃ dāmpatyamadhigacchati.
76. striyāḥ ca api vinā bhartrā dharmakāmārthasantatiḥ
na eva tasmāt trivargaḥ ayam dāmpatyam adhigacchati
76. And without a husband, a woman cannot achieve offspring for the sake of constitutional duty (dharma), legitimate desires (kāma), and material prosperity (artha). Therefore, this group of three (dharma, artha, kāma) is attained through the married state.
