मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-21, verse-71

तथैव भर्तारमृते भार्या धर्मादिसाधने ।
न समर्था त्रिवर्गोऽयं दाम्पत्यं समुपाश्रितः ॥७१॥
71. tathaiva bhartāramṛte bhāryā dharmādisādhane .
na samarthā trivargo'yaṃ dāmpatyaṃ samupāśritaḥ.
71. tathā eva bhartāram ṛte bhāryā dharmādisādhane |
na samarthā trivargaḥ ayam dāmpatyam samupāśritaḥ
71. Similarly, a wife is not capable of achieving righteousness (dharma) and other goals without a husband. This triad (dharma, artha, kāma) depends entirely on the married state.
