महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-7, chapter-85, verse-49

श्रुताश्च बहवोऽस्माभी राजानो ये दिवं गताः ।
दत्त्वेमां पृथिवीं कृत्स्नां ब्राह्मणेभ्यो यथाविधि ॥४९॥
49. śrutāśca bahavo'smābhī rājāno ye divaṁ gatāḥ ,
dattvemāṁ pṛthivīṁ kṛtsnāṁ brāhmaṇebhyo yathāvidhi.
49. śrutāḥ ca bahavaḥ asmābhiḥ rājānaḥ ye divam gatāḥ
dattvā imām pṛthivīm kṛtsnām brāhmaṇebhyaḥ yathāvidhi
49. asmābhiḥ bahavaḥ rājānaḥ śrutāḥ ye imām kṛtsnām
pṛthivīm yathāvidhi brāhmaṇebhyaḥ dattvā divam gatāḥ ca
49. We have indeed heard of many kings who ascended to heaven, having given this entire earth to Brahmins according to proper ritual (yathāvidhi).
