From Śaradvat, a descendant of Gautama, a pair of twins was born from a clump of reeds: the mighty Kṛpa and the mother of Aśvatthāmā (Kṛpī). Then, Aśvatthāmā, the foremost among weapon-wielders, was born from Droṇa.
