महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-57, verse-73

ब्रह्मणो ब्राह्मणानां च तथानुग्रहकाम्यया ।
विव्यास वेदान्यस्माच्च तस्माद्व्यास इति स्मृतः ॥७३॥
73. brahmaṇo brāhmaṇānāṁ ca tathānugrahakāmyayā ,
vivyāsa vedānyasmācca tasmādvyāsa iti smṛtaḥ.
73. brahmaṇaḥ brāhmaṇānām ca tathā anugrahakāmyayā
vivyāsa vedān yasmāt ca tasmāt vyāsaḥ iti smṛtaḥ
73. And likewise, desiring to favor Brahmā and the Brahmins, he classified the Vedas. Because of this, he is known as Vyāsa.
