महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-57, verse-35

यः पुमानभवत्तत्र तं स राजर्षिसत्तमः ।
वसुर्वसुप्रदश्चक्रे सेनापतिमरिंदमम् ।
चकार पत्नीं कन्यां तु दयितां गिरिकां नृपः ॥३५॥
35. yaḥ pumānabhavattatra taṁ sa rājarṣisattamaḥ ,
vasurvasupradaścakre senāpatimariṁdamam ,
cakāra patnīṁ kanyāṁ tu dayitāṁ girikāṁ nṛpaḥ.
35. yaḥ pumān abhavat tatra tam sa
rājarṣisattamaḥ vasuḥ vasupradaḥ
cakre senāpatim arindamam cakāra
patnīm kanyām tu dayitām girikām nṛpaḥ
35. That best of royal sages, Vasu, the giver of wealth, appointed whichever man was present there as his general and subduer of enemies. And the king made the beloved maiden Girikā his wife.
