मार्कण्डेय उवाच ।
इति तस्या वचः श्रुत्वा स्मृत्वा पितृवचः शुभम् ।
किमिच्छके प्रतिज्ञाते यदुक्तं तेन भूभृता ॥१॥
1. mārkaṇḍeya uvāca .
iti tasyā vacaḥ śrutvā smṛtvā pitṛvacaḥ śubham .
kimicchake pratijñāte yaduktaṃ tena bhūbhṛtā.

1. Mārkaṇḍeya said: "Thus, having heard her words and having remembered his father's auspicious advice - that which had been spoken by that king concerning the wish-granter (kimicchaka) who was promised..."
प्रत्युवाच स तां कन्यामविक्षिन्नृपतेः सुतः ।
सानुरागमनाः कन्यां त्यक्तभोगां च तत्कृते ॥२॥
2. pratyuvāca sa tāṃ kanyāmavikṣinnṛpateḥ sutaḥ .
sānurāgamanāḥ kanyāṃ tyaktabhogāṃ ca tatkṛte.
2. pratyuvāca saḥ tām kanyām avikṣin nṛpateḥ sutaḥ
sānurāgamanāḥ kanyām tyaktabhogām ca tatkṛte
2. The undiminished son of the king replied to that maiden. And with an affectionate mind, he spoke to the maiden who had forsaken pleasures for his sake.
यदाहं त्यक्तवांस्तन्वीं त्वामरातिपराजितः ।
विजित्य शत्रून्सम्प्राप्ता त्वं मयात्र करोमि किम् ॥३॥
3. yadāhaṃ tyaktavāṃstanvīṃ tvāmarātiparājitaḥ .
vijitya śatrūnsamprāptā tvaṃ mayātra karomi kim.
3. yadā aham tyaktavān tanvīm tvām arātiparājitaḥ
vijitya śatrūn samprāptā tvam mayā atra karomi kim
3. When, defeated by my enemies, I abandoned you, the slender one. Now that you have arrived here to me after I conquered my enemies, what should I do?
कन्योवाच ।
मम पाणिं गृहाण त्वं रमणीयेऽत्र कानने ।
सकामायाः सकामेन सङ्गमो गुणवान्भवेत् ॥४॥
4. kanyovāca .
mama pāṇiṃ gṛhāṇa tvaṃ ramaṇīye'tra kānane .
sakāmāyāḥ sakāmena saṅgamo guṇavānbhavet.
4. kanyā uvāca mama pāṇim gṛhāṇa tvam ramaṇīye atra
kānane sakāmāyāḥ sakāmena saṅgamaḥ guṇavān bhavet
4. The maiden said: 'You take my hand here in this charming forest. The union of an enamored woman with an enamored man would be beneficial.'
राजपुत्र उवाच ।
एवं भवतु भद्रं ते विधिरेवात्र कारणम् ।
अन्यथा कथमन्यत्र त्वामहं च समागतः ॥५॥
5. rājaputra uvāca .
evaṃ bhavatu bhadraṃ te vidhirevātra kāraṇam .
anyathā kathamanyatra tvāmahaṃ ca samāgataḥ.
5. rājaputraḥ uvāca evam bhavatu bhadram te vidhiḥ eva atra
kāraṇam anyathā katham anyatra tvām aham ca samāgataḥ
5. The prince said: 'So be it. May good fortune be yours. Destiny (vidhi) itself is the cause here. Otherwise, how could you and I have met anywhere else?'
मार्कण्डेय उवाच ।
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे प्राप्तो गन्धर्वतनयो मुने ।
वराप्सरोभिः सहितो गन्धर्वैरपरैर्वृतः ॥६॥
6. mārkaṇḍeya uvāca .
etasminnantare prāpto gandharvatanayo mune .
varāpsarobhiḥ sahito gandharvairaparairvṛtaḥ.
6. mārkaṇḍeyaḥ uvāca etasmin antare prāptaḥ gandharvatanayaḥ
mune vara apsarobhiḥ sahitaḥ gandharvaiḥ aparaiḥ vṛtaḥ
6. Mārkaṇḍeya said: 'O sage, meanwhile, the son of a gandharva arrived, accompanied by excellent celestial nymphs (apsarases) and surrounded by other gandharvas.'
गन्धर्व उवाच ।
राजपुत्र सुतेयं मे भामिनी नाम मानिनी ।
अभिशापादगस्त्यस्य विशालतनयाऽभवत् ॥७॥
7. gandharva uvāca .
rājaputra suteyaṃ me bhāminī nāma māninī .
abhiśāpādagastyasya viśālatanayā'bhavat.
7. gandharvaḥ uvāca rājaputra sutā iyam me bhāminī nāma
māninī abhiśāpāt agastyasya viśālatanayā abhavat
7. The Gandharva said, "O Prince, this proud daughter of mine, named Bhāminī, became the daughter of Viśāla due to a curse from Agastya."
बालभावेन योऽगस्त्यः कोपितः क्रीडमानया ।
ततस्तेन तदा शप्ता मानुषी त्वं भविष्यसि ॥८॥
8. bālabhāvena yo'gastyaḥ kopitaḥ krīḍamānayā .
tatastena tadā śaptā mānuṣī tvaṃ bhaviṣyasi.
8. bālabhāvena yaḥ agastyaḥ kopitaḥ krīḍamānayā
tataḥ tena tadā śaptā mānuṣī tvam bhaviṣyasi
8. "Agastya, who was angered by her playing in a childish manner, then cursed her at that time, saying, 'You will be a human woman.'"
प्रसादितः स चास्माभिर्बालेयमविवेकिनी ।
तवापराद्धा विप्रर्षे प्रसादः क्रियतामिति ॥९॥
9. prasāditaḥ sa cāsmābhirbāleyamavivekinī .
tavāparāddhā viprarṣe prasādaḥ kriyatāmiti.
9. prasāditaḥ sa ca asmābhiḥ bālā iyam avivekinī
tava aparāddhā viprarṣe prasādaḥ kriyatām iti
9. And he was propitiated by us (with the plea), 'This girl is indiscreet; O sage (viprarṣi), she has offended you. Let grace be shown!'
प्रसाद्यमानः सोऽस्माभिरिदमाह महामुनिः ।
बालेति मत्वा शापोऽल्पो दत्तोऽस्या नान्यथैव तत् ॥१०॥
10. prasādyamānaḥ so'smābhiridamāha mahāmuniḥ .
bāleti matvā śāpo'lpo datto'syā nānyathaiva tat.
10. prasādyamānaḥ saḥ asmābhiḥ idam āha mahāmuniḥ bālā
iti matvā śāpaḥ alpaḥ dattaḥ asyāḥ na anyathā eva tat
10. The great sage (mahāmuni), being propitiated by us, said this: 'Considering her a mere child, a light curse was given to her; it cannot be otherwise.'
इति शापादगस्त्यस्य विशालभवने शुभा ।
जातेयं मत्सुता सुभ्रूर्भामिनी नाम नामतः ॥११॥
11. iti śāpādagastyasya viśālabhavane śubhā .
jāteyaṃ matsutā subhrūrbhāminī nāma nāmataḥ.
11. iti śāpāt agastyasya viśālabhavane śubhā jātā
iyam mat-sutā subhrūḥ bhāminī nāma nāmataḥ
11. Consequently, due to the curse (śāpa) of Agastya, this beautiful daughter of mine, who has lovely eyebrows and is named Bhāminī, was born in a grand palace.
तदस्याहं कृते प्राप्तो गृहाणेमां नृपात्मजाम् ।
ममात्मजा सुतस्तेऽत्र चक्रवर्ती भविष्यति ॥१२॥
12. tadasyāhaṃ kṛte prāpto gṛhāṇemāṃ nṛpātmajām .
mamātmajā sutaste'tra cakravartī bhaviṣyati.
12. tat asyāḥ aham kṛte prāptaḥ gṛhāṇa imām nṛpa-ātmajām
mama ātmajā sutaḥ te atra cakravartī bhaviṣyati
12. Therefore, I have come here for her sake. Please accept this princess. Your son, born from my daughter, will become a universal emperor (cakravartin).
मार्कण्डेय उवाच ।
तथेत्युक्त्वेति तस्याश्च स पाणिं पार्थिवात्मजः ।
जग्राह विधिवद्धोमं चक्रे तत्र च तुम्बुरुः ॥१३॥
13. mārkaṇḍeya uvāca .
tathetyuktveti tasyāśca sa pāṇiṃ pārthivātmajaḥ .
jagrāha vidhivaddhomaṃ cakre tatra ca tumburuḥ.
13. mārkaṇḍeyaḥ uvāca tathā iti
uktvā iti tasyāḥ ca saḥ pāṇim
pārthiva-ātmajaḥ jagrāha vidhivat
homam cakre tatra ca tumburuḥ
13. Mārkaṇḍeya said: Having assented, the king's son took her hand according to the prescribed rites. And Tumburu, there, performed the ritual oblation (homa).
प्रजगुर्देवगन्धर्वा ननृतुश्चाप्सरोगणाः ।
पुष्पाणि ससृजुर्मेघा देववाद्यानि सस्वनुः ॥१४॥
14. prajagurdevagandharvā nanṛtuścāpsarogaṇāḥ .
puṣpāṇi sasṛjurmeghā devavādyāni sasvanuḥ.
14. pra-jaguḥ deva-gandharvāḥ nanṛtuḥ ca apsaras-gaṇāḥ
puṣpāṇi sasṛjuḥ meghāḥ deva-vādyāni sasvanuḥ
14. The gods and gandharvas sang, and troupes of apsaras danced. Clouds rained down flowers, and divine musical instruments resounded loudly.
विवाहे राजपुत्रस्य तया तत्र समेयुषः ।
समस्तवसुधात्राणकर्तृकारणभूतया ॥१५॥
15. vivāhe rājaputrasya tayā tatra sameyuṣaḥ .
samastavasudhātrāṇakartṛkāraṇabhūtayā.
15. vivāhe rājaputrasya tayā tatra sameyuṣaḥ
samastavasudhātrāṇakartṛkāraṇabhūtayā
15. At the wedding of the prince, who had met her there, by her who had become the cause and agent for the protection of the entire earth.
ततो गन्धर्वलोकं ते सह तेन महात्मना ।
निःशेषेण ययुः सा च स राजसुतो मुने ॥१६॥
16. tato gandharvalokaṃ te saha tena mahātmanā .
niḥśeṣeṇa yayuḥ sā ca sa rājasuto mune.
16. tataḥ gandharvalokam te saha tena mahātmanā
niḥśeṣeṇa yayuḥ sā ca sa rājasutaḥ mune
16. Then, O sage, she and that prince went completely to the world of the Gandharvas along with that great soul (mahātman).
भामिन्या मुमुदे सार्द्धमविक्षिन्नृपनन्दनः ।
सा च तेन समं तत्र भोगसम्पत्समन्विता ॥१७॥
17. bhāminyā mumude sārddhamavikṣinnṛpanandanaḥ .
sā ca tena samaṃ tatra bhogasampatsamanvitā.
17. bhāminyā mumude sārdham avikṣin nṛpanandanaḥ
sā ca tena samam tatra bhogasampatsamanvitā
17. The prince (nṛpanandana) was undisturbed and rejoiced with the beautiful woman. And she, along with him, was endowed with an abundance of pleasures there.
कदाचिदतिरम्येऽसौ नगरोपवने तया ।
विक्रीडति समं तन्व्या कदाचिदुपपर्वते ॥१८॥
18. kadācidatiramye'sau nagaropavane tayā .
vikrīḍati samaṃ tanvyā kadācidupaparvate.
18. kadācit atiramye asau nagaropavane tayā
vikrīḍati samam tanvyā kadācit upaparvate
18. Sometimes he sports with the slender-bodied woman in the exceedingly beautiful city park, and sometimes, along with her, on a hill.
कदाचित्पुलिने नद्या हंससारसशोभिते ।
कदाचिद्भवनस्यान्ते प्रासादे चातिशोभने ॥१९॥
19. kadācitpuline nadyā haṃsasārasaśobhite .
kadācidbhavanasyānte prāsāde cātiśobhane.
19. kadācit puline nadyā haṃsasārasaśobhite
kadācit bhavanasya ante prāsāde ca atiśobhane
19. Sometimes on a beautiful riverbank, adorned with swans and cranes, and sometimes inside a very splendid palace or mansion.
विहारदेशेष्वन्येषु रमणीयेष्वहर्निशम् ।
स रेमे सहितस्तन्व्या सा च तेन महात्मना ॥२०॥
20. vihāradeśeṣvanyeṣu ramaṇīyeṣvaharniśam .
sa reme sahitastanvyā sā ca tena mahātmanā.
20. vihāradeśeṣu anyeṣu ramaṇīyeṣu aharniśam sa
reme sahitaḥ tanvyā sā ca tena mahātmanā
20. Day and night, he enjoyed himself in other delightful pleasure spots, accompanied by the beautiful woman, and she, in turn, enjoyed herself with that great-souled (mahātman) man.
भक्ष्यानुलेपनं वस्त्रं स्रक्पानादिकमुत्तमम् ।
उपाजह्रुस्तयोस्तत्र मुनिगन्धर्वकिन्नराः ॥२१॥
21. bhakṣyānulepanaṃ vastraṃ srakpānādikamuttamam .
upājahrustayostatra munigandharvakinnarāḥ.
21. bhakṣyānulepanam vastram srakpānādikam uttamam
upājahruḥ tayoḥ tatra munigandharvakinnarāḥ
21. There, sages, Gandharvas, and Kinnaras brought for the two of them excellent provisions like food, unguents, clothes, garlands, and drinks.
तया च रमतस्तस्य भामिन्या सह दुर्लभे ।
गन्धर्वलोके वीरस्य पुत्रं सा सुषुवे शुभा ॥२२॥
22. tayā ca ramatastasya bhāminyā saha durlabhe .
gandharvaloke vīrasya putraṃ sā suṣuve śubhā.
22. tayā ca ramataḥ tasya bhāminyā saha durlabhe
gandharvaloke vīrasya putram sā suṣuve śubhā
22. And as he enjoyed himself with that beautiful woman (bhāminī) in the rarely accessible world of the Gandharvas, that auspicious lady (śubhā) bore a son to the hero.
तस्मिञ्जाते महावीर्ये गन्धर्वाणां महोत्सवः ।
बभूव मनुजव्याघ्रे तेन कार्यमवेक्षताम् ॥२३॥
23. tasmiñjāte mahāvīrye gandharvāṇāṃ mahotsavaḥ .
babhūva manujavyāghre tena kāryamavekṣatām.
23. tasmin jāte mahāvīrye gandharvāṇām mahotsavaḥ
babhūva manujavyāghre tena kāryam avekṣatām
23. Upon the birth of that greatly valiant one, a great festival of the Gandharvas took place. O tiger among men, therefore, let the task be observed.
जगुः केचित्तथैवान्ये मृदङ्गपटहानकान् ।
अवादयन्त चैवान्ये वेणुवीणादिकांस्तथा ॥२४॥
24. jaguḥ kecittathaivānye mṛdaṅgapaṭahānakān .
avādayanta caivānye veṇuvīṇādikāṃstathā.
24. jaguḥ kecit tathā eva anye mṛdaṅgapaṭahānakān
avādayanta ca eva anye veṇuvīṇādikān tathā
24. Some sang, and others similarly played mṛdaṅga, paṭaha, and ānaka drums. And others played flutes, lutes, and other such instruments.
ननृतुश्च तथा तत्र बहवोऽप्सरसां गणाः ।
पुष्पवृष्टिमुचो मेघा जगर्जुर्मृदुनिस्वनाः ॥२५॥
25. nanṛtuśca tathā tatra bahavo'psarasāṃ gaṇāḥ .
puṣpavṛṣṭimuco meghā jagarjurmṛdunisvanāḥ.
25. nanṛtuḥ ca tathā tatra bahavaḥ apsarasām gaṇāḥ
puṣpavṛṣṭimucaḥ meghāḥ jagarjuḥ mṛdunisvanāḥ
25. And there, many groups of Apsaras danced. Clouds, releasing showers of flowers, softly rumbled.
तथा कोलाहले तस्मिन्वर्तमानेऽथ तुम्बुरुः ।
प्रणयेन स्मृतोऽभ्येत्य जातकर्माकरोन्मुनिः ॥२६॥
26. tathā kolāhale tasminvartamāne'tha tumburuḥ .
praṇayena smṛto'bhyetya jātakarmākaronmuniḥ.
26. tathā kolāhale tasmin vartamāne atha tumburuḥ
praṇayena smṛtaḥ abhyetya jātakarma akarot muniḥ
26. As that tumult was thus occurring, then the sage Tumburu, having been lovingly invited, approached and performed the birth ceremony (jātakarma).
देवाः समाययुः सर्वे तथा देवर्षयोऽमलाः ।
पातालात्पन्नगेन्द्राश्च शेषवासुकितक्षकाः ॥२७॥
27. devāḥ samāyayuḥ sarve tathā devarṣayo'malāḥ .
pātālātpannagendrāśca śeṣavāsukitakṣakāḥ.
27. devāḥ samāyayuḥ sarve tathā devarṣayaḥ amalāḥ
pātālāt pannaga-indrāḥ ca śeṣa-vāsuki-takṣakāḥ
27. All the gods came together, and similarly, the pure divine sages. From Patala, the chief serpents also arrived, including Shesha, Vasuki, and Takshaka.
तथा देवासुराणां च ये प्रधाना द्विजोत्तम ।
यक्षाणां गुह्यकानां च वायवश्च तथाऽखिलाः ॥२८॥
28. tathā devāsurāṇāṃ ca ye pradhānā dvijottama .
yakṣāṇāṃ guhyakānāṃ ca vāyavaśca tathā'khilāḥ.
28. tathā deva-asurāṇām ca ye pradhānā dvija-uttama
yakṣāṇām guhyakānām ca vāyavaḥ ca tathā akhilāḥ
28. And similarly, O best of Brahmins (dvijottama), those who are the chiefs among gods and asuras, and among Yakshas and Guhyakas, and all the Vayus (wind deities), also gathered.
तदाऽऽगतैरशेषर्षिदेवदानवपन्नगैः ।
मुनिभिश्चाकुलमभूद्गन्धर्वाणां महत्पुरम् ॥२९॥
29. tadā''gatairaśeṣarṣidevadānavapannagaiḥ .
munibhiścākulamabhūdgandharvāṇāṃ mahatpuram.
29. tadā āgataiḥ aśeṣa-ṛṣi-deva-dānava-pannagaiḥ
munibhiḥ ca ākulam abhūt gandharvāṇām mahat puram
29. Then, the great city of the Gandharvas became crowded with all the sages, gods, demons, and serpents who had arrived, as well as with ascetics.
ततः स तुम्बुरुः कृत्वा जातकर्मादिकाः क्रियाः ।
चक्रे स्वस्त्ययनं तस्य बालस्य स्तुतिपूर्वकम् ॥३०॥
30. tataḥ sa tumburuḥ kṛtvā jātakarmādikāḥ kriyāḥ .
cakre svastyayanaṃ tasya bālasya stutipūrvakam.
30. tataḥ sa tumburuḥ kṛtvā jāta-karma-ādikāḥ kriyāḥ
cakre svastyayanaṃ tasya bālasya stuti-pūrvakam
30. Then, Tumburu, having performed ceremonies like the Jatakarma (birth rite) and others, carried out an auspicious rite (svastyayana) for that child, preceded by praise.
चक्रवर्ती महावीर्यो महाबाहुर्महाबलः ।
महान्तं कालमीशित्वमशेषायाः क्षितेः कुरु ॥३१॥
31. cakravartī mahāvīryo mahābāhurmahābalaḥ .
mahāntaṃ kālamīśitvamaśeṣāyāḥ kṣiteḥ kuru.
31. cakravartī mahāvīryaḥ mahābāhuḥ mahābalaḥ
mahāntam kālam īśitvam aśeṣāyāḥ kṣiteḥ kuru
31. You, who are a universal monarch, greatly valiant, mighty-armed, and immensely strong, exercise dominion over the entire earth for a long time.
इमे शक्रादयः सर्वे लोकपालस्तथर्षयः ।
स्वस्ति कुर्वन्तु त वीर वीर्यं चारिविनाशनम् ॥३२॥
32. ime śakrādayaḥ sarve lokapālastatharṣayaḥ .
svasti kurvantu ta vīra vīryaṃ cārivināśanam.
32. ime śakrādayaḥ sarve lokapālāḥ tathā ṛṣayaḥ
svasti kurvantu te vīra vīryam ca arivināśanam
32. May all these, Indra and the other guardians of the world, as well as the sages, bestow well-being upon you, O hero, and grant you enemy-destroying valor.
मरुत्तव शिवायास्तु वाति पूर्वेण योऽरजाः ।
मरुत्ते विमलोऽक्षीणोऽवैषम्यायास्तु दक्षिणः ॥३३॥
33. maruttava śivāyāstu vāti pūrveṇa yo'rajāḥ .
marutte vimalo'kṣīṇo'vaiṣamyāyāstu dakṣiṇaḥ.
33. marut tava śivāya astu vāti pūrveṇa yaḥ arajaḥ
marut te vimalaḥ akṣīṇaḥ avaiṣamyāya astu dakṣiṇaḥ
33. May the eastern wind (marut), which blows free of dust, be for your well-being. May the southern wind (marut), which is pure and unfailing, be for your equanimity.
पश्चिमस्ते मरुद्वीर्यमुत्तमं ते प्रयच्छतु ।
बलं यच्छतु चोत्कृष्टं मरुत्ते च तथोत्तरः ॥३४॥
34. paścimaste marudvīryamuttamaṃ te prayacchatu .
balaṃ yacchatu cotkṛṣṭaṃ marutte ca tathottaraḥ.
34. paścimaḥ te marut vīryam uttamam te prayacchatu
balam yacchatu ca utkṛṣṭam marut te ca tathā uttaraḥ
34. May the western wind (marut) grant you excellent prowess. And may the northern wind (marut) also bestow upon you supreme strength.
इति स्वस्त्ययनस्यान्ते वागुवाचाशरीरिणी ।
मरुत्तवेति बहुशो यदिदं गुरुरब्रवीत् ॥३५॥
35. iti svastyayanasyānte vāguvācāśarīriṇī .
maruttaveti bahuśo yadidaṃ gururabravīt.
35. iti svastyayanasya ante vāk uvāca aśarīriṇī
marutta iti bahuśaḥ yat idam guruḥ abravīt
35. Thus, at the conclusion of the auspicious rite, a bodiless voice spoke, repeatedly saying 'Marutta!', just as the guru (guru) had previously stated this.
मरुत्त इति तेनायं भुवि ख्यातो भविष्यति ।
भुवि चास्य महीपाला यास्यन्याब्ज्ञावशा यतः ॥३६॥
36. marutta iti tenāyaṃ bhuvi khyāto bhaviṣyati .
bhuvi cāsya mahīpālā yāsyanyābjñāvaśā yataḥ.
36. marutta iti tena ayam bhuvi khyātaḥ bhaviṣyati
bhuvi ca asya mahīpālāḥ yāsyanti ājñāvaśāḥ yataḥ
36. Because of this, he will be known on earth as 'Marutta'. Indeed, on earth, kings will be subject to his command, for he will have power over them.
एष सर्वक्षितीशानां वीरः स्थास्यति मूर्द्धनि ।
चक्रवर्त्ती महावीर्यः सप्तद्वीपवतीं महीम् ॥३७॥
37. eṣa sarvakṣitīśānāṃ vīraḥ sthāsyati mūrddhani .
cakravarttī mahāvīryaḥ saptadvīpavatīṃ mahīm.
37. eṣaḥ sarvakṣitīśānām vīraḥ sthāsyati mūrdhani
cakravartī mahāvīryaḥ saptadvīpavatīm mahīm
37. This hero will stand paramount among all rulers of the earth. He will be a universal monarch (cakravartin), immensely powerful, who will conquer the earth, which comprises the seven continents.
आक्रम्य पृथिवीपालानयं भोक्ष्यत्यवारितः ।
प्रधानः पृथिवीशानां भविष्यत्येष यज्विनाम् ॥३८॥
38. ākramya pṛthivīpālānayaṃ bhokṣyatyavāritaḥ .
pradhānaḥ pṛthivīśānāṃ bhaviṣyatyeṣa yajvinām.
38. ākramya pṛthivīpālān ayam bhokṣyati avāritaḥ
pradhānaḥ pṛthivīśānām bhaviṣyati eṣaḥ yajvinām
38. Having conquered the rulers of the earth, he will enjoy (his reign) unobstructed. This one will be the foremost among earthly kings and among those who perform ritual sacrifices (yajvin).
मार्कण्डेय उवाच ।
इत्याकर्ण्य वचः सर्वे केनाप्युक्तं दिवौकसाम् ।
तुतुषुर्विप्रगन्धर्वाश्चास्य माता तथा पिता ॥३९॥
39. mārkaṇḍeya uvāca .
ityākarṇya vacaḥ sarve kenāpyuktaṃ divaukasām .
tutuṣurvipragandharvāścāsya mātā tathā pitā.
39. mārkaṇḍeyaḥ uvāca iti ākarṇya vacaḥ sarve kena api uktaṃ
divaukasām tutuṣuḥ vipragandharvāḥ ca asya mātā tathā pitā
39. Mārkaṇḍeya said: Having thus heard all the words spoken by the celestials, the Brahmins and Gandharvas, as well as his mother and father, were all pleased.
