Salutations to the unborn one, to the cause of the three worlds, to the soul (ātman) of all beings, to the lord of rays, to the virtuous one; salutations to the supreme among the very compassionate ones, to Sūrya, and to the abode of vision.

Salutations to Vivāsvān, to the immortal knowledge, to the inner self (antarātman), to the foundation of the world, to the well-wisher of the world, to the self-existent one, to the eye of all beings, to the best among the gods, and to one of immeasurable splendor.

At dawn, you become the crest-jewel of the sunrise mountain, worshipped by the hosts of gods, and beneficial to the world. Indeed, you, whose form consists of a thousand rays, shine in the world, dispelling all darknesses.

7.
A crimson form arises as if from the intoxication of drinking the liquor of the darkness of worldly existence (saṃsāra). O Sun, you shine with utmost brilliance, for your multitude of rays illuminate and sustain the three worlds.

O Lord (bhagavan), having ascended your chariot - which possesses perfectly balanced parts, sways beautifully, and is exceedingly splendid - you constantly traverse the vast expanse, drawn by unwearied horses, for the welfare of the world.

9.
O destroyer of enemy hosts, by means of your nectarous essence, you satisfy even the gods and ancestors. Therefore, having offered my reverence to you, I describe your form.

10.
O Sun, whose radiance is of parrot-like color and indeed unrenowned, and whose foot-dust is most purifying! O compassionate one to humble devotees, O purifier of the three worlds, protect me, who bows before you.

11.
Thus, O best among the gods, I am always prostrate to you, the Sun, who is the origin of all beings in the worlds, the unique cause of the effulgent abode that sustains the three worlds, and the lamp of the entire universe.
