मार्कण्डेय उवाच ।
ततः स्वारोचिषं नाम्ना द्युतिमन्तं प्रजापतिम् ।
मनुं चकार भगवांस्तस्य मन्वन्तरं शृणु ॥१॥
1. mārkaṇḍeya uvāca .
tataḥ svārociṣaṃ nāmnā dyutimantaṃ prajāpatim .
manuṃ cakāra bhagavāṃstasya manvantaraṃ śṛṇu.
1. Mārkaṇḍeya uvāca tataḥ Svārociṣam nāmnā dyutimantam
Prajāpatim manum cakāra Bhagavān tasya manvantaram śṛṇu
1. Mārkaṇḍeya said: Then, Bhagavān (the Lord) made the glorious Prajāpati, named Svārociṣa, into the Manu. Now listen to the account of his (Svārociṣa's) manvantara.
तत्रान्तरे तु ये देवा मुनयस्तत्सुताश्च ये ।
भूपालाः क्रौष्टुके ये तान्गदतस्त्वं निशामय ॥२॥
2. tatrāntare tu ye devā munayastatsutāśca ye .
bhūpālāḥ krauṣṭuke ye tāngadatastvaṃ niśāmaya.
2. tatra antare tu ye devāḥ munayaḥ tatsutāḥ ca ye
bhūpālāḥ Krauṣṭuke ye tān gadataḥ tvam niśāmaya
2. Now, in that manvantara, listen as I recount to you the gods, the sages, his (Manu's) sons, and the kings of the Krauṣṭuka lineage who were present.
देवाः पारावतास्तत्र तथैव तुषिता द्विज ।
स्वारोचिषेऽन्तरे चेन्द्रो विपश्चिदिति विश्रुतः ॥३॥
3. devāḥ pārāvatāstatra tathaiva tuṣitā dvija .
svārociṣe'ntare cendro vipaściditi viśrutaḥ.
3. devāḥ pārāvatāḥ tatra tathā eva tuṣitāḥ dvija
svārociṣe antare ca indraḥ vipaścit iti viśrutaḥ
3. O twice-born (dvija), during the Svārociṣa manvantara, the gods were the Pārāvatas and similarly the Tuṣitas. And the Indra of that period was famously known as Vipascit.
ऊर्जस्तम्बस्तथा प्राणो दत्तोऽलिर्ऋषभस्तथा ।
निश्चरश्चार्ववीरश्च तत्र सप्तर्षयोऽभवम् ॥४॥
4. ūrjastambastathā prāṇo datto'lirṛṣabhastathā .
niścaraścārvavīraśca tatra saptarṣayo'bhavam.
4. ūrjastambaḥ tathā prāṇaḥ dattaḥ aliḥ ṛṣabhaḥ tathā
niścaraḥ ca cārvavīraḥ ca tatra saptarṣayaḥ abhavan
4. And there, Ūrjastamba, Prāṇa, Datta, Ali, Ṛṣabha, Niścara, and Cārvavīra were the seven sages (saptarṣi).
चैत्रकिंपुरुषाद्याश्च सुतास्तस्य महात्मनः ।
सप्तासन्सुमहावीर्याः पृथिवीपरिपालकाः ॥५॥
5. caitrakiṃpuruṣādyāśca sutāstasya mahātmanaḥ .
saptāsansumahāvīryāḥ pṛthivīparipālakāḥ.
5. caitrakimpuruṣādyāḥ ca sutāḥ tasya mahātmanaḥ
sapta āsan sumahāvīryāḥ pṛthivīparipālakāḥ
5. And Caitra, Kimpuruṣa, and others were the seven extremely mighty sons of that great-souled (mahātman) one, who were protectors of the earth.
तस्य मन्वन्तरं यावत्तावत्तद्वंशविस्तरे ।
भुक्तेयमवनिः सर्वा द्वितीयं वै तदन्तरम् ॥६॥
6. tasya manvantaraṃ yāvattāvattadvaṃśavistare .
bhukteyamavaniḥ sarvā dvitīyaṃ vai tadantaram.
6. tasya manvantaram yāvat tāvat tadvamśavistare
bhuktā iyam avaniḥ sarvā dvitīyam vai tadantaram
6. For the entire duration of his manvantara, this whole earth was ruled by the descendants of his lineage. That was indeed the second such period.
स्वरोचिषस्तु चरितं जन्म स्वारोचिषस्य च ।
निशम्य मुच्यते पापैः श्रद्धधानो हि मानवः ॥७॥
7. svarociṣastu caritaṃ janma svārociṣasya ca .
niśamya mucyate pāpaiḥ śraddhadhāno hi mānavaḥ.
7. svarociṣaḥ tu caritam janma svārociṣasya ca
niśamya mucyate pāpaiḥ śraddadhānaḥ hi mānavaḥ
7. Indeed, a human being endowed with faith (śraddhā) who hears the deeds of Svārociṣa and the birth of Svārociṣa is freed from sins.
