मार्कण्डेय उवाच ।
ततस्तस्मान्नदीमध्यात्समुत्तस्थौ मनोरमा ।
प्रम्लोचा नाम तन्वङ्गी तत्समीपे वराप्सराः ॥१॥
1. mārkaṇḍeya uvāca .
tatastasmānnadīmadhyātsamuttasthau manoramā .
pramlocā nāma tanvaṅgī tatsamīpe varāpsarāḥ.
1. mārkaṇḍeya uvāca | tataḥ tasmāt nadīmadhyāt samuttasthau
manoramā | pramlōcā nāma tanvaṅgī tat samīpe vara apsarāḥ
1. Mārkaṇḍeya said: Then, from the middle of that river, an excellent celestial nymph, slender-bodied and charming, named Pramlocā, arose near him.
सा चोवाच महात्मानं रुचिं सुमधुराक्षरम् ।
प्रश्रयावनता सुभूः प्रम्लोचा वै वराप्सराः ॥२॥
2. sā covāca mahātmānaṃ ruciṃ sumadhurākṣaram .
praśrayāvanatā subhūḥ pramlocā vai varāpsarāḥ.
2. sā ca uvāca mahātmānaṃ ruciṃ sumadhurākṣaram |
praśrayāvanatā subhūḥ pramlōcā vai vara apsarāḥ
2. And indeed, she, the excellent celestial nymph Pramlocā, beautiful-browed and humble with modesty, spoke to the great-souled Ruci in very sweet words.
अतीव रूपिणी कन्या मत्सुता तपतां वर ।
जाता वरुणपुत्रेण पुष्करेण महात्मना ॥३॥
3. atīva rūpiṇī kanyā matsutā tapatāṃ vara .
jātā varuṇaputreṇa puṣkareṇa mahātmanā.
3. atīva rūpiṇī kanyā matsutā tapatāṃ vara
| jātā varuṇaputreṇa puṣkareṇa mahātmanā
3. O best of ascetics, my daughter, an exceedingly beautiful maiden, was born from the great-souled Puṣkara, the son of Varuṇa.
तां गृहाण मया दत्तां भार्यार्थे वरवर्णिनीम् ।
मनुर्महामतिस्तस्यां समुत्पस्यति ते सुतः ॥४॥
4. tāṃ gṛhāṇa mayā dattāṃ bhāryārthe varavarṇinīm .
manurmahāmatistasyāṃ samutpasyati te sutaḥ.
4. tām gṛhāṇa mayā dattām bhāryārthe varavarṇinīm
manuḥ mahāmatiḥ tasyām samutpasyati te sutaḥ
4. Accept her, this beautiful woman, given by me to be your wife. Your son, Manu, who will be of great intellect, will be born from her.
मार्कण्डेय उवाच ।
तथेति तेन साऽप्युक्ता तस्मात्तोयाद्वपुष्मतीम् ।
उज्जहार ततः कन्यां मालिनी नाम नामतः ॥५॥
5. mārkaṇḍeya uvāca .
tatheti tena sā'pyuktā tasmāttoyādvapuṣmatīm .
ujjahāra tataḥ kanyāṃ mālinī nāma nāmataḥ.
5. mārkaṇḍeyaḥ uvāca tathā iti tena sā api uktā tasmāt toyāt
vapuṣmatīm ujjihāra tataḥ kanyām mālinī nāma nāmataḥ
5. Markandeya said: She too was addressed by him with 'So be it.' Then, he drew from that water the embodied maiden, known by the name Malinī.
नद्याश्च पुलिने तस्मिन्स रुचिर्मुनिसत्तमः ।
जग्राह पाणिं विधिवत्समानाय्य महामुनीन् ॥६॥
6. nadyāśca puline tasminsa rucirmunisattamaḥ .
jagrāha pāṇiṃ vidhivatsamānāyya mahāmunīn.
6. nadyāḥ ca puline tasmin saḥ ruciḥ munisattamaḥ
jagrāha pāṇim vidhivat samānāyya mahāmunīn
6. And on that riverbank, the sage Ruci, who was the best among sages, properly took her hand after assembling the great sages.
तस्यां तस्य सुतो जज्ञे महावीर्यो महामतिः ।
रौच्योऽभवत्पितुर्नाम्ना ख्यातोऽत्र वसुधातले ॥७॥
7. tasyāṃ tasya suto jajñe mahāvīryo mahāmatiḥ .
raucyo'bhavatpiturnāmnā khyāto'tra vasudhātale.
7. tasyām tasya sutaḥ jajñe mahāvīryaḥ mahāmatiḥ
raucyaḥ abhavat pituḥ nāmnā khyātaḥ atra vasudhātale
7. From her, his son was born, a being of great valor and profound intellect. He became known by his father's name, Raucya, and was famous here on Earth.
तस्य मन्वन्तरे देवास्तथा सप्तर्षयश्च ये ।
तनयाश्च नृपाश्चैव ते सम्यक्कथितास्तव ॥८॥
8. tasya manvantare devāstathā saptarṣayaśca ye .
tanayāśca nṛpāścaiva te samyakkathitāstava.
8. tasya manvantare devāḥ tathā saptarṣayaḥ ca ye
tanayāḥ ca nṛpāḥ ca eva te samyak kathitāḥ tava
8. The gods of his manvantara, as well as the seven sages, his sons, and the kings - all of them have been properly described to you.
धर्मवृद्धिस्तथारोग्यं धनधान्यसुतोद्भवः ।
नृणां भवत्यसन्दिग्धमस्मिन्मन्वन्तरे श्रुते ॥९॥
9. dharmavṛddhistathārogyaṃ dhanadhānyasutodbhavaḥ .
nṛṇāṃ bhavatyasandigdhamasminmanvantare śrute.
9. dharmavṛddhiḥ tathā ārogyam dhanadhānyasutodbhavaḥ
nṛṇām bhavati asandigdham asmin manvantare śrute
9. An increase in (natural) law (dharma), good health, and the prosperity of wealth, grain, and sons undoubtedly occurs for people when this manvantara is heard about.
पितृस्तवं तथा श्रुत्वा पितॄणां च तथा गणान् ।
सर्वान्कामानवाप्नोति तत्प्रसादान्महामुने ॥१०॥
10. pitṛstavaṃ tathā śrutvā pitṝṇāṃ ca tathā gaṇān .
sarvānkāmānavāpnoti tatprasādānmahāmune.
10. pitṛstavam tathā śrutvā pitṝṇām ca tathā gaṇān
sarvān kāmān avāpnoti tatprasādāt mahāmune
10. Having heard the praise of the ancestors (pitṛs) and also their hosts, one attains all desires by their grace, O great sage.
