महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-27, verse-64

य इच्छेत्सफलं जन्म जीवितं श्रुतमेव च ।
स पितॄंस्तर्पयेद्गङ्गामभिगम्य सुरांस्तथा ॥६४॥
64. ya icchetsaphalaṁ janma jīvitaṁ śrutameva ca ,
sa pitṝṁstarpayedgaṅgāmabhigamya surāṁstathā.
64. yaḥ icchet saphalam janma jīvitam śrutam eva ca
saḥ pitṝn tarpayet gaṅgām abhigamya surān tathā
64. Whoever desires a successful birth, a prosperous life, and sacred knowledge, should approach the Ganga to offer libations to his ancestors and similarly to the gods.
