Ghorādhvāṅkṣī and Mahodaryau, Mandā, Mandākinī, and Miśrā, as well as Rākṣasī, are the types of solar transits (Sūrya Saṅkrānti) that commence from a Sunday (Sūrya Vāsara).
संक्रान्तौ च नरो जातो भवेद् दारिद्र्य दुःखभाक् ।
शान्त्या सुखमवाप्नोति ततः शान्तिविधि ब्रुवे ॥२॥

A person born during a transition (saṃkrānti) becomes subject to poverty and suffering. Through pacification, one obtains happiness. Therefore, I describe the pacification ritual (śāntividhi).
नवग्रहमखं कुर्यात् तस्य दोषोपशान्तये ।

For the pacification of his faults, one should perform a nine-planet (navagraha) Vedic ritual (makha). And, in the eastern part of the house, having smeared (the ground) with cow dung...
स्वलंकृतप्रदेशे तु ब्रीहिराशिं प्रकल्पयेत् ।

In a well-decorated place, one should arrange a heap of unhusked rice (brīhi), measuring five droṇas. Similarly, half of that quantity should be (a heap) of dehusked rice (taṇḍula).
तदर्धं च तिलैः कुर्याद्राशिं च द्विजसत्तम ।
पृथक् त्रितयराशौ तु लिखेदष्टदलं बुधैः ॥५॥

And, O best among the twice-born (dvija), one should also make a heap of half that quantity with sesame seeds (tila). Then, separately, on each of the three heaps, the wise should draw an eight-petaled (aṣṭadala) design.
पुण्याहं वाचयित्वा तु आचार्यं वृणुयात् पुरा ।
धर्मज्ञं मन्त्रतत्त्वज्ञं शान्तिकर्मणि कोविदम् ॥६॥

First, after proclaiming the auspicious day, one should select a preceptor (ācārya) who understands the natural law (dharma), knows the true essence of mantras, and is skilled in peace-making rituals.
राशिषु स्थापयेत् कुम्भानव्रणान् सुमनोहरान् ।
तीर्थोदकेन सम्पूर्य समृदौषधपल्लवम् ॥७॥

7. rāśiṣu sthāpayet kumbhānavraṇān sumanoharān .

One should place unblemished and very beautiful pots (kumbhas) in the zodiacal signs, filling them completely with water from sacred places (tīrtha), along with earth, medicinal herbs, and sprouts.
पंचगव्यं क्षिपेत्तत्र वस्त्रयुग्मेन वेष्टयेत् ।
कुम्भोपरि न्यसेत् पात्रं सूक्ष्मवस्त्रेण वेष्टितम् ॥८॥

8. paṃcagavyaṃ kṣipettatra vastrayugmena veṣṭayet .

One should pour the five products of the cow (pañcagavya) into them. Then, one should wrap (each pot) with a pair of cloths. On top of the pot, a vessel, wrapped with a fine cloth, should be placed.
प्रतिमां स्थापयेत् तत्र साधिप्रत्यधिदैवताम् ।
अधिदैवं भवेत् सूर्यश्चन्द्रः प्रत्यधिदैवतम् ॥९॥

9. pratimāṃ sthāpayet tatra sādhipratyadhidaivatām .

There, one should place an idol along with its presiding deity (adhidevatā) and subsidiary deity (pratyadhidevatā). The Sun (sūrya) should be the presiding deity, and the Moon (candra) should be the subsidiary deity.
चन्द्रादित्याकृती पार्श्वे मध्ये संक्रान्तिमर्चयेत् ।
प्रतिमां पूजने पूर्वं वस्त्रयुग्मं निवेदयेत् ॥१०॥

10. candrādityākṛtī pārśve madhye saṃkrāntimarcayet .

One should worship the forms of the Moon and Sun on the sides, and the Saṃkrānti in the middle. Before the worship of the idol (pratimā), a pair of garments should be offered.
ततो व्याहृतिपूर्र्वेण तत्तन्मन्त्रेण पूजयेत् ।
त्रैयम्बकेण मन्त्रेण प्रधानप्रतिभां पूजयेत् ॥११॥

11. tato vyāhṛtipūrrveṇa tattanmantreṇa pūjayet .

Thereafter, one should worship with their respective sacred utterances (mantra), preceded by the Vyāhṛtis. The principal idol (pratimā) should be worshipped with the Trayambaka sacred utterance (mantra).
उत्सूर्य इति मन्त्रेण सूर्यपूजां समाचरेत् ।
आप्यायस्वेति मन्त्रेण चन्द्रपूजां समाचरेत् ॥१२॥

12. utsūrya iti mantreṇa sūryapūjāṃ samācaret .

One should perform the worship of the Sun using the sacred utterance (mantra) 'Utsūrya' and the worship of the Moon using the sacred utterance (mantra) 'Āpyāyasva'.
उपचारैः षोडशभिर्यद्वा पञ्चोपचारकैः ।
मृत्युंजयन मन्त्रेण प्रधानप्रतिमां स्पृशन् ॥१३॥

13. upacāraiḥ ṣoḍaśabhiryadvā pañcopacārakaiḥ .

One should touch the principal idol of the deity while chanting the death-conquering incantation (mantra), performing worship with either sixteen or five ritual offerings.
अष्टोत्तरसहस्रं चाऽप्यष्टोत्तरशतं जपेत् ।
अथाऽष्टाविंशतिं वापि जपेन्मन्त्रं स्वशक्तितः ॥१४॥

14. aṣṭottarasahasraṃ cā'pyaṣṭottaraśataṃ japet .
athā'ṣṭāviṃśatiṃ vāpi japenmantraṃ svaśaktitaḥ.

14.
aṣṭottarasahasram ca api aṣṭottaraśatam japet atha
aṣṭāviṃśatim vā api japet mantram svaśaktitaḥ
aṣṭāviṃśatim vā api japet mantram svaśaktitaḥ
14.
One should recite the sacred incantation (mantra) 1,008 times, or 108 times. Alternatively, one may also recite it 28 times, according to one's own capacity.
कुम्भेभ्यः पश्चिमे देशे स्थण्डिलेऽग्निं प्रकल्पयेत् ।
स्वगृह्योक्तविधानेन कारयेत् संस्कृतानलम् ॥१५॥

15. kumbhebhyaḥ paścime deśe sthaṇḍile'gniṃ prakalpayet .
svagṛhyoktavidhānena kārayet saṃskṛtānalam.

To the west of the pots, on a ritually prepared ground, one should establish the fire. One should have the consecrated fire prepared according to the method prescribed in one's own Gṛhya-sūtra.

अष्टोत्तरसहस्रं वा अष्टोत्तरशतं यथा ॥१६॥

16. trayambakena mantreṇa samidājyacarūn hunet .

One should offer fuel sticks, clarified butter, and cooked oblations using the Tryambaka mantra, performing the offering either 1008 times or 108 times, as appropriate.

मृत्युंजयेन मन्त्रेण तिलहोमश्च कारयेत् ॥१७॥

17. aṣṭaviṃśatimevāpi kuryād homaṃ svaśaktitaḥ .

One should also perform the fire offering twenty-eight times, according to one's own capacity. Additionally, one should perform a sesame seed offering using the Mrityunjaya mantra.
ततः स्विष्टकृतं हुत्वाभिषेकं च कारयेत् ।
ब्रह्मणान् भोजयेत् पश्चादेवं शान्तिमवाप्नुयात् ॥१८॥

18. tataḥ sviṣṭakṛtaṃ hutvābhiṣekaṃ ca kārayet .

Then, after offering the sviṣṭakṛt oblation, one should also perform an anointing ritual. Subsequently, one should feed the Brahmins. In this way, one will attain peace.
