अवस्थावशतः प्रोक्तं ग्रहाणां यत् फलं मुने ।
का साऽवस्था मुनिश्रेष्ठ कतिधा चेति कथ्ययाम् ॥१॥
1. avasthāvaśataḥ proktaṃ grahāṇāṃ yat phalaṃ mune .

1. O sage, you have described the results of planets based on their states. O best of sages, what exactly are these states, and how many types are there? Please explain this to me.
अवस्था विविधाः सन्ति ग्रहाणां दिवजसत्तम ।
सारभूताश्च यास्तासु बालाद्यास्ता वदाम्यहम् ॥२॥
2. avasthā vividhāḥ santi grahāṇāṃ divajasattama .
sārabhūtāśca yāstāsu bālādyāstā vadāmyaham.

2. O best among the twice-born (dvijasattama), planets have various states (avasthā). Among those that are essential, I will now describe the ones beginning with bāla (childhood).
क्रमाद् बालः कुमारोऽथ युवा वृद्धस्तथा मृतः ।
षडंशैरसमे खेटः समे ज्ञेयो विपर्ययात् ॥३॥
3. kramād bālaḥ kumāro'tha yuvā vṛddhastathā mṛtaḥ .
ṣaḍaṃśairasame kheṭaḥ same jñeyo viparyayāt.

ṣaḍaṃśaiḥ asame kheṭaḥ same jñeyaḥ viparyayāt
3. A planet sequentially progresses through the states of child (bāla), adolescent (kumāra), youth (yuvan), old (vṛddha), and dead (mṛta). These states are understood to correspond to six-degree divisions within odd zodiacal signs. In even signs, these states are known to occur in the reverse order.
फलं पादमितं बाले फलार्धं च कुमारके ।
यूनि पूर्णं फलं ज्ञेयं वृद्धे किञ्चित् मृते च खम् ॥४॥
4. phalaṃ pādamitaṃ bāle phalārdhaṃ ca kumārake .
yūni pūrṇaṃ phalaṃ jñeyaṃ vṛddhe kiñcit mṛte ca kham.

4. The planetary result is considered one-fourth in the child (bāla) state, and half in the adolescent (kumāra) state. In the youth (yuvan) state, the full result is to be understood. In the old (vṛddha) state, it is a small amount, and in the dead (mṛta) state, it is zero.
स्वभोच्चयोः समसुहृद्भयोः शत्रुभनीचयोः ।
जाग्रत्स्वप्नसुषुप्त्याख्या अवस्था नामदृक्फलाः ॥५॥
5. svabhoccayoḥ samasuhṛdbhayoḥ śatrubhanīcayoḥ .
jāgratsvapnasuṣuptyākhyā avasthā nāmadṛkphalāḥ.

5. When planets are in their own house or exaltation, they are said to be in the Jāgrat (waking) state. When in neutral or friendly houses, they are in the Svapna (dream) state. When in enemy houses or debilitation, they are in the Suṣupti (deep sleep) state. These states (avasthā) indeed yield specific observable results.
जागरे च फलं पूर्णं स्वप्ने मध्यफलं तथा ।
सुषुप्तौ तु फलं शून्यं विज्ञेयं द्विजसत्तम ॥६॥
6. jāgare ca phalaṃ pūrṇaṃ svapne madhyaphalaṃ tathā .
suṣuptau tu phalaṃ śūnyaṃ vijñeyaṃ dvijasattama.

suṣuptau tu phalam śūnyam vijñeyam dvijasattama
6. O best among the twice-born (dvija), it should be understood that a full result occurs in the waking state, a medium result in the dream state, and zero result in the state of deep sleep.
दीप्तः स्वस्थः प्रमुदितः शान्तो दीनोऽथ दुःखितः ।
विकलश्च खलः कोऽपीत्यवस्था नवधाऽपराः ॥७॥
7. dīptaḥ svasthaḥ pramuditaḥ śānto dīno'tha duḥkhitaḥ .
vikalaśca khalaḥ ko'pītyavasthā navadhā'parāḥ.
7. dīptaḥ svasthaḥ pramuditaḥ śāntaḥ dīnaḥ atha duḥkhitaḥ
vikalaḥ ca khalaḥ kopī iti avasthāḥ navadhā aparāḥ
7. Brilliant, well-placed, very happy, peaceful, miserable, distressed, agitated, wicked, and angry - these are the nine other types of planetary states.
स्वोच्चस्थः खेचरो दीप्तः स्वर्क्षे स्वस्थोऽधिमित्रभे ।
मुदितो मित्रभे शान्तः समभे दीन उच्यते ॥८॥
8. svoccasthaḥ khecaro dīptaḥ svarkṣe svastho'dhimitrabhe .
mudito mitrabhe śāntaḥ samabhe dīna ucyate.
8. svoccāsthaḥ khecaraḥ dīptaḥ svarṣe svasthaḥ adhimitrabhe
muditaḥ mitrabhe śāntaḥ samabhe dīnaḥ ucyate
8. A planet (khecara) is said to be brilliant (dīpta) when in its sign of exaltation. It is called well-placed (svastha) in its own sign or a sign of an intimate friend. It is happy (mudita) in a friend's sign, and miserable (dīna) in a neutral sign.
शत्रुभे दुःखितः प्रोक्तो विकलः पापसंयुतः ।
खलः खलगृहे ज्ञेयः कोपी स्यादर्कसंयुतः ॥९॥
9. śatrubhe duḥkhitaḥ prokto vikalaḥ pāpasaṃyutaḥ .
khalaḥ khalagṛhe jñeyaḥ kopī syādarkasaṃyutaḥ.
9. śatrubhe duḥkhitaḥ proktaḥ vikalaḥ pāpasaṃyutaḥ
khalaḥ khalagṛhe jñeyaḥ kopī syāt arkasaṃyutaḥ
9. It is declared to be distressed (duḥkhita) in an enemy's sign, agitated (vikala) when conjoined with a malefic, and wicked (khala) when in a wicked planet's sign. It should be known as angry (kopī) when conjoined with the Sun.
यादृशो जन्मकाले यः खेटो यद्भावगो भवेत् ।
तादृशं तस्य भावस्य फलमुह्यं द्विजोत्तम ॥१०॥
10. yādṛśo janmakāle yaḥ kheṭo yadbhāvago bhavet .
tādṛśaṃ tasya bhāvasya phalamuhyaṃ dvijottama.
10. yādṛśaḥ janmakāle yaḥ kheṭaḥ yat bhāvagaḥ bhavet
tādṛśam tasya bhāvasya phalam ūhyam dvijottama
10. O best among the twice-born (dvijottama), one should infer the result of a particular house (bhāva) at the time of birth to be of the same nature as the planet (kheṭa) that occupies that house (bhāva).
लज्जितो गर्वितश्चैव क्षुधितस्तृषितस्तथा ।
मुदितः क्षोभितश्चैव ग्रहभावाः प्रकीर्तिताः ॥११॥
11. lajjito garvitaścaiva kṣudhitastṛṣitastathā .
muditaḥ kṣobhitaścaiva grahabhāvāḥ prakīrtitāḥ.
11. lajjitaḥ garvitaḥ ca eva kṣudhitaḥ tṛṣitaḥ tathā
muditaḥ kṣobhitaḥ ca eva grahabhāvāḥ prakīrtitāḥ
11. The states of planets are declared as ashamed, proud, hungry, thirsty, pleased, and agitated.
पुत्रगेहगतः खेटो राहुकेतुयुतोऽथवा ।
रविमन्दकुजैर्युक्तो लज्जितो ग्रह उच्यते ॥१२॥
12. putragehagataḥ kheṭo rāhuketuyuto'thavā .
ravimandakujairyukto lajjito graha ucyate.
12. putragehagataḥ kheṭaḥ rāhuketuyutaḥ athavā
ravimandakujaiḥ yuktaḥ lajjitaḥ grahaḥ ucyate
12. A planet (kheṭa) situated in the fifth house (putrageha), or associated with Rāhu or Ketu, or combined with the Sun, Saturn (śani), and Mars, is called an ashamed (lajjita) planet.
तुङ्गस्थानगतो वाऽपि त्रिकोणेऽपि भवेत्पुनः ।
गर्वितः सोऽपि गदितो निर्विशंकं द्विजोत्तम ॥१३॥
13. tuṅgasthānagato vā'pi trikoṇe'pi bhavetpunaḥ .
garvitaḥ so'pi gadito nirviśaṃkaṃ dvijottama.
13. tuṅgasthānagataḥ vā api trikoṇe api bhavet punaḥ
garvitaḥ saḥ api gaditaḥ nirviśaṅkam dvijottama
13. If a planet is situated in its exaltation sign (tuṅgasthāna) or even in a trine (trikoṇa), then it is undoubtedly called a proud (garvita) planet, O best among Brahmins (dvijottama).
शत्रुगेही शत्रुयुक्तो रिपुदृष्टो भवेद्यदि ।
क्षुधितः स च विज्ञेयः शनियुक्तो यथा तथा ॥१४॥
14. śatrugehī śatruyukto ripudṛṣṭo bhavedyadi .
kṣudhitaḥ sa ca vijñeyaḥ śaniyukto yathā tathā.
14. śatrugehī śatruyuktaḥ ripudṛṣṭaḥ bhavet yadi
kṣudhitaḥ saḥ ca vijñeyaḥ śaniyuktaḥ yathā tathā
14. If a planet is situated in an enemy's house, or conjoined with an enemy planet, or aspected by an enemy planet, it should be known as a hungry (kṣudhita) planet; similarly, if it is conjoined with Saturn (śani).
जलराशौ स्थितः खेटः शत्रुणा चाऽवलोकितः ।
शुभग्रहा न पश्यन्ति तृषितः स उदाहृतः ॥१५॥
15. jalarāśau sthitaḥ kheṭaḥ śatruṇā cā'valokitaḥ .
śubhagrahā na paśyanti tṛṣitaḥ sa udāhṛtaḥ.
15. jalarāśau sthitaḥ kheṭaḥ śatruṇā ca avalokitaḥ
śubhagrahāḥ na paśyanti tṛṣitaḥ saḥ udāhṛtaḥ
15. A planet (kheṭa) situated in a watery sign (jalarāśi), aspected by an enemy, and not seen by benefic planets, is declared to be a thirsty (tṛṣita) planet.
मित्रगेही मित्रयुक्तो मित्रेण च विलोकितः ।
गुरुणा सहितो यश्च मुदितः स प्रकीर्तितः ॥१६॥
16. mitragehī mitrayukto mitreṇa ca vilokitaḥ .
guruṇā sahito yaśca muditaḥ sa prakīrtitaḥ.
16. mitragehī mitrayuktaḥ mitreṇa ca vilokitaḥ |
guruṇā sahitaḥ yaḥ ca muditaḥ saḥ prakīrtitaḥ
16. A planet is declared joyful (muditaḥ) when it is located in a friendly sign, conjoined with a friendly planet, aspected by a friendly planet, and also associated with a (spiritual teacher) guru.
रविणा सहितो यश्च पापा पश्यन्ति सर्वथा ।
क्षोभितं तं विजानीयाच्छत्रुणा यदि वीक्षितः ॥१७॥
17. raviṇā sahito yaśca pāpā paśyanti sarvathā .
kṣobhitaṃ taṃ vijānīyācchatruṇā yadi vīkṣitaḥ.
17. raviṇā sahitaḥ yaḥ ca pāpā paśyanti sarvathā |
kṣobhitam tam vijānīyāt śatruṇā yadi vīkṣitaḥ
17. If a planet is conjoined with the Sun, and is always aspected by malefic planets, and if it is aspected by an inimical planet, then one should understand it to be agitated (kṣobhitam).
येषु येषु च भावेषु ग्रहास्तिष्ठन्ति सर्वथा ।
क्षुधितः क्षोभितो वापि तद्भावफलनाशनः ॥१८॥
18. yeṣu yeṣu ca bhāveṣu grahāstiṣṭhanti sarvathā .
kṣudhitaḥ kṣobhito vāpi tadbhāvaphalanāśanaḥ.
18. yeṣu yeṣu ca bhāveṣu grahāḥ tiṣṭhanti sarvathā |
kṣudhitaḥ kṣobhitaḥ vā api tadbhāvaphala-nāśanaḥ
18. And in whichever houses planets are always situated, if a planet is in a hungry (kṣudhitaḥ) or agitated (kṣobhitaḥ) state, it will destroy the results pertaining to that house.
एवं क्रमेण बोद्धव्यं सर्वभावेषु पण्डितैः ।
बलाऽबलविचारेण वक्तव्यः फलनिर्णयः ॥१९॥
19. evaṃ krameṇa boddhavyaṃ sarvabhāveṣu paṇḍitaiḥ .
balā'balavicāreṇa vaktavyaḥ phalanirṇayaḥ.
19. evam krameṇa boddhavyam sarvabhāveṣu paṇḍitaiḥ
| balābalavicāreṇa vaktavyaḥ phalanirṇayaḥ
19. Thus, the learned (paṇḍitaiḥ) should understand this method for all astrological houses. The final determination of results should be stated after carefully considering the strengths and weaknesses of the planets.
अन्योन्यं च मुदा युक्तं फलं मिश्रं वदेत्पुनः ।
बलहीने तदा हानिः सबले च महाफलम् ॥२०॥
20. anyonyaṃ ca mudā yuktaṃ phalaṃ miśraṃ vadetpunaḥ .
balahīne tadā hāniḥ sabale ca mahāphalam.
20. anyonyam ca mudā yuktam phalam miśram vadet
punaḥ | balahīne tadā hāniḥ sabale ca mahāphalam
20. Furthermore, if planets are mutually joyful, one should declare mixed results. When a planet is weak, there is a loss of outcome, but when it is strong, there are great results.
कर्मस्थाने स्थितो यस्य लज्जितस्तृषितस्तथा ।
क्षुधितः क्षोभितो वापि स नरो दुःखभाजनम् ॥२१॥
21. karmasthāne sthito yasya lajjitastṛṣitastathā .
kṣudhitaḥ kṣobhito vāpi sa naro duḥkhabhājanam.
21. karma-sthāne sthitaḥ yasya lajjitaḥ tṛṣitaḥ tathā
kṣudhitaḥ kṣobhitaḥ vā api saḥ naraḥ duḥkha-bhājanam
21. If a planet situated in the house of action (karma-sthāna) is abashed (lajjita), thirsty (tṛṣita), hungry (kṣudhita), or agitated (kṣobhita), that person becomes a recipient of misery.
सुतस्थाने भवेद्यस्य लज्जितो ग्रह एव च ।
सुतनाशो भवेत्तस्य एकस्तिष्ठति सर्वदा ॥२२॥
22. sutasthāne bhavedyasya lajjito graha eva ca .
sutanāśo bhavettasya ekastiṣṭhati sarvadā.
22. suta-sthāne bhavet yasya lajjitaḥ grahaḥ eva ca
suta-nāśaḥ bhavet tasya ekaḥ tiṣṭhati sarvadā
22. If a planet situated in the house of children (suta-sthāna) is abashed (lajjita), there will be a loss of children for that person, and only one (child) will always remain.
क्षोभितस्तृषितश्चैव सप्तमे यस्य वा भवेत् ।
म्रियते तस्य नारी च सत्यमाहुर्द्विजोत्तम ॥२३॥
23. kṣobhitastṛṣitaścaiva saptame yasya vā bhavet .
mriyate tasya nārī ca satyamāhurdvijottama.
23. kṣobhitaḥ tṛṣitaḥ ca eva saptame yasya vā bhavet
mriyate tasya nārī ca satyam āhuḥ dvijottama
23. O best among the twice-born (dvijottama), if a planet situated in the seventh house is agitated (kṣobhita) and thirsty (tṛṣita), his wife dies; this is declared as truth.
नवालयारामसुखं नृपत्वं कलापटुत्वं विदधाति पुंसाम् ।
सदार्थलाभं व्यवहारवृद्धिं फलं विशेषादिह गर्वितस्य ॥२४॥
24. navālayārāmasukhaṃ nṛpatvaṃ kalāpaṭutvaṃ vidadhāti puṃsām .
sadārthalābhaṃ vyavahāravṛddhiṃ phalaṃ viśeṣādiha garvitasya.
24. nava-ālaya-ārāma-sukham nṛpatvam
kalā-paṭutvam vidadhāti puṃsām
sadā artha-lābham vyavahāra-vṛddhim
phalam viśeṣāt iha garvitasya
24. (A planet that is) strong (garvita) here (in a particular house) bestows upon men happiness from new houses and gardens, royal status, skill in arts, continuous acquisition of wealth, and growth in business dealings; these are the special results.
भवति मुदितयोगे वासशालाविशाला ।
विमलवसनभूषाभूमियोषासु सौख्यम् ।
स्वजनजनविलासो भूमिपागारवासो ।
रिपुनिवहविनाशो बुद्धिविद्याविकाशः ॥२५॥
25. bhavati muditayoge vāsaśālāviśālā .
vimalavasanabhūṣābhūmiyoṣāsu saukhyam .
svajanajanavilāso bhūmipāgāravāso .
ripunivahavināśo buddhividyāvikāśaḥ.
25. bhavati mudita-yoge vāsa-śālā viśālā
vimala-vasana-bhūṣā-bhūmi-yoṣāsu saukhyam
sva-jana-vilāsaḥ bhūmipāgāra-vāsaḥ
ripu-nivaha-vināśaḥ buddhi-vidyā-vikāśaḥ
25. When a planet is in the joyful (mudita) state, there will be spacious residences, happiness from pure clothes, ornaments, land, and women, enjoyment with one's own relatives, residence in royal palaces, destruction of a multitude of enemies, and the development of intellect and knowledge.
दिशति लज्जितभाववशाद्रतिं विगतराममतिं विमतिक्षयम् ।
सुतगदागमनं गमनं वृथा कलिकथाभिरुचिं न रुचिं शुभे ॥२६॥
26. diśati lajjitabhāvavaśādratiṃ vigatarāmamatiṃ vimatikṣayam .
sutagadāgamanaṃ gamanaṃ vṛthā kalikathābhiruciṃ na ruciṃ śubhe.
26. diśati lajjitabhāvavaśāt ratim
vigatarāmammatim vimatikṣayam
sutagadāgamanam gamanam vṛthā
kalikathābhirucim na rucim śubhe
26. It causes attachment due to a state of shame, a mind devoid of joy, and the decay of discernment. It also brings the onset of disease in children, futile journeys, an interest in quarrels, and no interest in auspicious matters.
संक्षोभितस्यापि फलं विशेषाद्द्रिद्रजातं कुमतिं च कष्टम् ।
करोति वित्तक्षयमंध्रिबाधां धनाप्तिबाधामवनीशकोपात् ॥२७॥
27. saṃkṣobhitasyāpi phalaṃ viśeṣāddridrajātaṃ kumatiṃ ca kaṣṭam .
karoti vittakṣayamaṃdhribādhāṃ dhanāptibādhāmavanīśakopāt.
27. saṃkṣobhitasya api phalam viśeṣāt
dridrajātam kumatim ca kaṣṭam
karoti vittakṣayam aṃdhrībādhām
dhanāptibādhām avanīśakopāt
27. Even the outcome for the greatly agitated one is particularly the origin of poverty, perverse intellect, and suffering. It causes loss of wealth, affliction of the feet, hindrance in gaining wealth, and anger from the king.
क्षुधितखगवशाद्वै शोकमोहादिपातः ।
परिजनपरितापादाधिभीत्या कृशत्वम् ।
कलिरपि रिपुलोकैरर्थबाधा नराणा ।
मखिलब्बलनिरोधो बुद्धिरोधो विषादात् ॥२८॥
28. kṣudhitakhagavaśādvai śokamohādipātaḥ .
parijanaparitāpādādhibhītyā kṛśatvam .
kalirapi ripulokairarthabādhā narāṇā .
makhilabbalanirodho buddhirodho viṣādāt.
28. kṣudhitakhagavaśāt vai śokamohādipātaḥ
parijanaparitāpāt ādhibhītyā kṛśatvam
kaliḥ api ripulokaiḥ arthabādhā narāṇām
akhilabalanirodhaḥ buddhinirodhaḥ viṣādāt
28. Indeed, due to a hungry bird (situation), there is a fall into sorrow, delusion, and similar states. Emaciation occurs due to the suffering of kinsfolk and from anxiety and fear. Also, strife among people, obstruction of wealth by enemies, obstruction of all strength, and obstruction of intellect due to despondency.
तृषितखगभवे स्वादंगनासंगमध्ये ।
भवति गदविकारो दृष्टकार्याधिकारः ।
निजजनपरिवादादर्थहानिः कृशत्वं ।
खलकृतपरितापो मानहानिः सदैव ॥२९॥
29. tṛṣitakhagabhave svādaṃganāsaṃgamadhye .
bhavati gadavikāro dṛṣṭakāryādhikāraḥ .
nijajanaparivādādarthahāniḥ kṛśatvaṃ .
khalakṛtaparitāpo mānahāniḥ sadaiva.
29. tṛṣitakhagabhave svāṅganāsaṅgamadhye
bhavati gadavikāraḥ dṛṣṭakāryādhikāraḥ
nijajanaparivādāt arthahāniḥ kṛśatvam
khalakṛtaparitāpaḥ mānahāniḥ sadaiva
29. When the situation of a thirsty bird arises, there occurs disease affliction even amidst intimacy with one's women, and one may have authority over observed tasks. Loss of wealth and emaciation result from criticism by one's own people. Suffering caused by wicked people and loss of honor are constant.
शयनं चोपवेशं च नेत्रपाणिप्रकाशनम् ।
गमनागमनं चाऽथ सभायां वसतिं तथा ॥३०॥
30. śayanaṃ copaveśaṃ ca netrapāṇiprakāśanam .
gamanāgamanaṃ cā'tha sabhāyāṃ vasatiṃ tathā.
30. śayanam ca upaveśam ca netrapāṇiprakāśanam
gamanam āgamanam ca atha sabhāyām vasatim tathā
30. Sleeping and sitting, and the display of eyes and hands. Also, going and coming, and residing in an assembly.
आगमं भोजनं चैव नृत्यं लिप्सां च कौतुकम् ।
निद्रां ग्रहाणां चेष्टां च कथयामि तवाग्रितः ॥३१॥
31. āgamaṃ bhojanaṃ caiva nṛtyaṃ lipsāṃ ca kautukam .
nidrāṃ grahāṇāṃ ceṣṭāṃ ca kathayāmi tavāgritaḥ.
31. āgamam bhojanam ca eva nṛtyam lipsām ca kautukam
| nidrām grahāṇām ceṣṭām ca kathayāmi tava agritaḥ
31. I will now explain to you the indications of arrival, eating, dance, desires, curiosity, sleep, and the various activities of the planets.
यस्मिन्नृक्षे भवेत्खेटस्तेन तं परिपूरयेत् ।
पुनरंशेन सम्पूर्य स्वनक्षत्रं नियोजयेत् ॥३२॥
32. yasminnṛkṣe bhavetkheṭastena taṃ paripūrayet .
punaraṃśena sampūrya svanakṣatraṃ niyojayet.
32. yasmin ṛkṣe bhavet kheṭaḥ tena tam paripūrayet
| punaḥ aṃśena sampūrya svanakṣatram niyojayet
32. One should fill (or complete) that (constellation) with the planet which is present in it. Then, having completed it again with a specific division (or degree), one should apply (or assign) one's own birth constellation (nakṣatra).
यातदण्डं तथा लग्नमेकीकृत्य सदा बुधः ।
रविभिस्तु हरेद् भागं शेषं कार्ये नियोजयेत् ॥३३॥

33. The wise person (budhaḥ) should always unite the elapsed time in daṇḍas and the ascendant (lagna). Then, one should divide the portion (obtained) by twelve (represented by 'suns'), and apply the remainder to the specific purpose (kārya) of the calculation.
नाक्षत्रिकदशारीत्या पुनः पूरणमाचरेत् ।
नामाद्यस्वरसंख्याढ्यं हर्तव्यं रविभिस्ततः ॥३४॥
34. nākṣatrikadaśārītyā punaḥ pūraṇamācaret .

34. One should again perform the completion (calculation) according to the method of the nakṣatra (lunar mansion) dasa (planetary period system). Then, the number (or portion) that is enriched (or determined) by the count of the first vowel of the (native's) name should be divided by twelve (represented by 'suns').
रवौ पञ्च तथा देयाश्चन्द्रे दद्याद्द्वयं तथा ।
कुजे द्वयं च संय्क्तं बुधे त्रीत्रि नियोजयेत् ॥३५॥

35. Five should be assigned for the Sun. Similarly, one should give two for the Moon. And two are to be joined (or assigned) for Mars. For Mercury, one should assign three.
गुरौ बाणाः प्रदेयाश्च त्रयं दद्याच्च भार्गवे ।
शनौ त्रयमथो देयं राहौ दद्याच्चतुष्टयम् ॥३६॥

36. Five shares (bāṇāḥ) should be assigned to Jupiter (guru), and three shares should be assigned to Venus (bhārgava). Then, three shares should be assigned to Saturn (śani), and four shares should be assigned to Rāhu.
त्रिभिर्भक्तं च शेषांकैः सा पुनस्त्रिबिधा स्मृता ।
दष्टिश्चेष्टा विचेष्टा च तत्फलं तथयाम्यहम् ॥३७॥
37. tribhirbhaktaṃ ca śeṣāṃkaiḥ sā punastribidhā smṛtā .
daṣṭiśceṣṭā viceṣṭā ca tatphalaṃ tathayāmyaham.

37. When divided by three, and by the remaining digits, that (result or value) is again considered threefold: namely, aspect (dṛṣṭi), effort (ceṣṭā), and intensified effort (viceṣṭā). I will explain their effects accordingly.
दृष्टौ मध्यफलं ज्ञेयं चेष्टायां विपुलं फलम् ।
विचेष्टायां फलं स्वल्पमेवं दृष्टिफलं विदुः ॥३८॥
38. dṛṣṭau madhyaphalaṃ jñeyaṃ ceṣṭāyāṃ vipulaṃ phalam .

38. In the case of aspect (dṛṣṭi), a moderate result should be understood. In the case of effort (ceṣṭā), a significant result (is obtained). In the case of intensified effort (viceṣṭā), the result is small. Astrologers understand the effects of these astrological factors in this manner.
शुभाऽशुभं ग्रहाणां च समीक्ष्याऽथ बलाऽबलम् ।
तुङ्गस्थाने विशेषेण बलं ज्ञेयं तथा बुधैः ॥३९॥
39. śubhā'śubhaṃ grahāṇāṃ ca samīkṣyā'tha balā'balam .

39. Having thoroughly examined the auspicious and inauspicious qualities of the planets, as well as their strengths and weaknesses, especially regarding their exaltation (tuṅgasthāna), astrologers (budhaiḥ) should thus understand their strength.
मन्दाग्निरोगो बहुधा नराणां स्थूलत्वमन्ङ् घ्रेरपिपित्तकोपः ।
व्रणं गुदे शूलमुरःप्रदेशे यदोष्णभानुः शयनं प्रयातः ॥४०॥
40. mandāgnirogo bahudhā narāṇāṃ sthūlatvamanṅ ghrerapipittakopaḥ .

40. When the hot-rayed Sun (uṣṇabhānu) enters the house of sleep (the 12th house), there will be various digestive disorders (mandāgniroga) for people, along with stoutness of the feet, bilious afflictions (pittakopa), anal wounds, and pain in the chest region.
दरिद्रताभारविहाराशाली विवादविद्याभिरतो नरः स्यात् ।
कथोरचित्तः खलु नष्टवित्तः सूर्यो यदा चेदुपवेशनस्थः ॥४१॥

41. When the Sun is situated in the "upaveśana" house (7th house from the ascendant), a person will be afflicted by the burden of poverty and restlessness, fond of argumentation, hard-hearted, and certainly one who has lost their wealth.
नरः सदानन्दधरो विवेकी परोपकारी बलवित्तयुक्तः ।
महामुखी राजकृपाभिमानी दिवाधिनाथो यदि नेत्रपानौ ॥४२॥

42. If the Sun (divādhinātha) is in the "netrapāna" position (2nd house from the ascendant), a person will always be joyful, discerning, benevolent, endowed with strength and wealth, eloquent, and proud of royal favor.
उदारचित्तः परिपूर्णवित्तः सभासु वक्ता बहुपुण्यकर्त्ता ।
महाबली सुन्दरररूपशाली प्रकाशने जन्मनि पदिमनीशे ॥४३॥

43. When the Sun (padminīśa) is in the "prakāśana" house (10th house from the ascendant) of the birth chart, a person will be generous, very wealthy, an eloquent speaker in assemblies, one who performs many meritorious deeds, very powerful, and endowed with a beautiful form.
प्रवासशाली किल दुःखमाली सदालसी धीधनवर्जितश्च ।
भयातुरः कोपपरो विशेषाद्दिवाधिनाथे गमने मनुष्यः ॥४४॥

44. When the Sun (divādhinātha) is in the "gamana" house (12th house from the ascendant), a person will certainly be prone to dwelling abroad, afflicted by misery, always lazy, devoid of intelligence and wealth, distressed by fear, and especially prone to anger.
परदाररतो जनतारहितो बहुधागमने गमनाभिरुचिः ।
खलताकुशलो मलिनो दिवसाधिपतौ मनुजः कुमतिः कृपणः ॥४५॥

45. When the Sun (divasādhipati) is in a position that indicates frequent travel (related to the 12th house), a person will be devoted to other men's wives, unpopular, fond of travel, skilled in wickedness, impure, foolish, and miserly.

सदार्थरत्नपूरितो दिवाकरे गुणाकरः ।
वसुन्धरानवांबरालयान्वितो महाबली ।

46. When the Sun (divākara) is (in a favorable position), a person is beneficial in assemblies, dedicated to helping others, and filled with good intentions and wealth. He is a mine of virtues, endowed with new clothes and homes on earth, very powerful, affectionate towards various friends, and supremely compassionate.
क्षोभितो रिपुगणैः सदा नरश्चञ्चलः खलमतिः कृशस्तथा ।
धर्मकर्मरहितो मदोद्धतश्चागमे दिनपतौ तदा तदा ॥४७॥
47. kṣobhito ripugaṇaiḥ sadā naraścañcalaḥ khalamatiḥ kṛśastathā .

47. When the Sun (dinapati) is (in an unfavorable position), a person is always troubled by enemies, fickle, of wicked mind, and emaciated. He is devoid of righteous actions (dharma) and duties (karma), arrogant, and these negative traits repeatedly manifest at such times.
सदाङ्गसन्धिवेदनापराङ्गनाधनक्षयो ।
बलक्षयः पदे पदे यदा यदा हि भोजने ।
असत्यता शिरोव्यथा तथा वृथान्नभोजनं ।
रवावसत्तथारतिः कुमार्गगामिनी मति ॥४८॥
48. sadāṅgasandhivedanāparāṅganādhanakṣayo .
balakṣayaḥ pade pade yadā yadā hi bhojane .
asatyatā śirovyathā tathā vṛthānnabhojanaṃ .
ravāvasattathāratiḥ kumārgagāminī mati.

48. When the Sun (ravau) is unfavorably placed, a person experiences constant joint pain, financial loss due to other women, and a gradual loss of strength, especially at mealtimes. There is untruthfulness, headaches, and the consumption of useless food. Additionally, discontent arises, and the mind (mati) tends to stray onto wrong paths.
विज्ञलोकैः स्दा मण्डितः पण्डितः काव्यविद्यानवद्यप्रलापान्वितः ।
राजपूज्यो धरामण्डले सर्वदा नृत्यलिप्सागते पद्मिनीनायके ॥४९॥

49. When the Sun (padminīnāyaka) is in a position indicating a desire for dance, the person (born under this influence) is always adorned by wise individuals, learned, and articulate in flawless discussions on poetry and knowledge. Such a person is always honored by kings throughout the world.
सर्वदानन्दधर्ता जनो ज्ञानवान् यज्ञकर्ता धराधीशसद्मस्थितः ।
पद्मबन्धावरातेर्भयं स्वाननः काव्यविद्याप्रलापी मुदा कौतुके ॥५०॥
50. sarvadānandadhartā jano jñānavān yajñakartā dharādhīśasadmasthitaḥ .

50. A person (janaḥ) always maintains happiness, is knowledgeable, performs "yajña"s, and resides in the palace of a king. When the Sun (padmabandhu) is (in an unfavorable position), there is fear from enemies. Despite this, such a person has a beautiful face and speaks eloquently about poetry and knowledge with joy and enthusiasm.
निद्राभरारक्तनिभे भवेतां निद्रागते लोचनपद्मयुग्मे ।
रवौ विदेशे वसतिर्जनस्य कलत्रहानिः कातिधार्थनाशः ॥५१॥
51. nidrābharāraktanibhe bhavetāṃ nidrāgate locanapadmayugme .

51. When the pair of lotus-like eyes become reddish, appearing as if overcome by sleep, and the Sun is located in a foreign country, it indicates that the person will reside abroad, experience loss of a spouse, and suffer a significant loss of wealth.
जानुःकाले क्षपानाथे शयनं चेदुपागते ।
मानी शीतप्रधानश्च कामी वित्तविनाशकः ॥५२॥
52. jānuḥkāle kṣapānāthe śayanaṃ cedupāgate .

52. If the Moon, positioned in the "jānukāla" (knee-related region or time), approaches the "śayana" (sleep) avasthā (state), the person will be proud, predominantly cold in temperament, lustful, and a squanderer of wealth.
रोगार्दितो मन्दमतिर्विशेषाद्वित्तेन हीनो मनुजः कठोरः ।
अकार्यकारी परवित्तहारी क्षपाकरे चेदुपवेशनस्थे ॥५३॥
53. rogārdito mandamatirviśeṣādvittena hīno manujaḥ kaṭhoraḥ .

53. If the Moon is in the "upaveśana" (sitting) state, the person will be afflicted by disease, dull-witted, especially devoid of wealth, cruel, one who does improper deeds, and a thief of others' wealth.
नेत्रपाणौ क्षपानाथे महारोगी नरो भवेत् ।
अनल्पजल्पको धूर्तः कुकर्मनिरतः सदा ॥५४॥
54. netrapāṇau kṣapānāthe mahārogī naro bhavet .

54. If the Moon is in the "netrapāṇi" (eye-and-hand) state, the person will be very diseased, exceedingly talkative, cunning, and always engaged in bad deeds.
यदा राकानाथे गतवति विकाशं च जनने ।
विकाशः संसारे विमलगुणराशेरवनिपात् ।
नवाशामाला स्यात्करितुरगलक्ष्म्या परिवृता ।
विभूषा योषाभिः सुखमनुदिनं तीर्थगमनम् ॥५५॥
55. yadā rākānāthe gatavati vikāśaṃ ca janane .
vikāśaḥ saṃsāre vimalaguṇarāśeravanipāt .
navāśāmālā syātkarituragalakṣmyā parivṛtā .
vibhūṣā yoṣābhiḥ sukhamanudinaṃ tīrthagamanam.
55. yadā rākānāthe gatavati vikāśam ca janane
vikāśaḥ saṃsāre vimalaguṇarāśeḥ avanipāt
navāśāmālā syāt karituragalakṣmyā parivṛtā
vibhūṣā yoṣābhiḥ sukham anudinam tīrthagamanam
55. When the Moon attains brilliance in the birth chart, there will be prosperity in life (saṃsāra) originating from a king who is a treasury of pure virtues. There will be a new series of hopes, accompanied by the prosperity of elephants and horses, adornment by women, happiness every day, and pilgrimages.
सितेतरे पापरतो निशाकरे विशेषतः क्रूरकरो नरो भवेत् ।
सदाक्षिरोगैः परिपीड्यमानो वलक्षपक्षे गमने भयातुरः ॥५६॥
56. sitetare pāparato niśākare viśeṣataḥ krūrakaro naro bhavet .

56. When the Moon is in the dark half, a person becomes engaged in sinful acts, and is especially cruel. He is constantly afflicted by eye diseases and becomes distressed by fear when traveling during the bright lunar half.
विधावागमगे मानी पादरोगी नरो भवेत् ।
गुप्तपापरतो दीनो मतितोषविवर्जितः ॥५७॥
57. vidhāvāgamage mānī pādarogī naro bhavet .

57. When the Moon is in the house of gain (the eleventh house), a person becomes proud, suffers from foot diseases, is engaged in secret sins, feels miserable, and is devoid of intelligence and contentment.
सकलजनवदान्यो राजराजेन्द्रमान्यो ।
रतिपतिसमाकान्तिः शान्तिकृत्कामिनीनाम् ।
सपदि सदसि याते चारुबिम्बे शशंके ।
भवति परमरीतिप्रीतिविज्ञो गुणज्ञः ॥५८॥
58. sakalajanavadānyo rājarājendramānyo .
ratipatisamākāntiḥ śāntikṛtkāminīnām .
sapadi sadasi yāte cārubimbe śaśaṃke .
bhavati paramarītiprītivijño guṇajñaḥ.

When the beautiful orb of the Moon is situated prominently (in an auspicious house), a person becomes generous to all people, respected by kings and emperors, possessing radiance like Kāmadeva (the lord of love), a peacemaker for women, knowledgeable of excellent customs and affection, and a connoisseur of virtues.
विधावागमके मत्यों वावालो धर्मपूरितः ।
कृष्णपक्षे द्विभार्यः स्याद्रोगी दुष्टतरो हठी ॥५९॥
59. vidhāvāgamake matyoṃ vāvālo dharmapūritaḥ .
kṛṣṇapakṣe dvibhāryaḥ syādrogī duṣṭataro haṭhī.

59. When the Moon is in the house of gain (the eleventh house), a person is eloquent and full of (dharma) natural law. However, if this occurs during the dark lunar half, he will have two wives, be sickly, very wicked, and stubborn.
भोजने जनुषि पूर्णचन्द्रमा मानयानजनतासुखं नृणाम् ।
आतनोति वनितासुतासुखं सर्वमेव न सितेतरे शुभम् ॥६०॥
60. bhojane januṣi pūrṇacandramā mānayānajanatāsukhaṃ nṛṇām .

60. When the Full Moon is in the house of sustenance (the second house) or the house of self (the first house), it bestows happiness upon people through honor, vehicles, community, women, and children. However, none of these auspicious effects occur when the Moon is in the dark half.
नृत्यलिप्सागते चन्द्रे सबले बलवान्नरः ।
गीतज्ञो हि रसज्ञश्च कृष्णे पापकरो भवेत् ॥६१॥
61. nṛtyalipsāgate candre sabale balavānnaraḥ .
gītajño hi rasajñaśca kṛṣṇe pāpakaro bhavet.

61. When the Moon is strong and situated in the desire for dance, the person is powerful, indeed knowledgeable in music, and appreciative of aesthetics, but commits sinful acts concerning Kṛṣṇa.
कौतकभवनं गतवति चन्द्रे भवति नृपत्वं वा धनपत्वम् ।
कामकलासु सदा कुशलत्वं वारवधूरतितमणपटुत्वम् ॥६२॥
62. kautakabhavanaṃ gatavati candre bhavati nṛpatvaṃ vā dhanapatvam .
kāmakalāsu sadā kuśalatvaṃ vāravadhūratitamaṇapaṭutvam.

62. When the Moon has reached the house of amusement, there is either kingship or great wealth. There is always skillfulness in the arts of love (kāmakalās) and proficiency in the desire for dalliance with courtesans.
निद्रागते जन्मनि मानवानां कलाधरे जीवयुते महत्त्वम् ।
हीनेऽङ्गनासञ्चितवित्तनाशः शिवालये रौति विचित्रमुच्चैः ॥६३॥
63. nidrāgate janmani mānavānāṃ kalādhare jīvayute mahattvam .

63. When at birth the Moon (kalādhara) is in the sleeping state and conjoined with Jupiter (jīva), humans attain greatness. If the Moon is debilitated, there is destruction of wealth accumulated by women, and (such a person) cries strangely and loudly in a Shiva temple.
शयने वसुधापुत्रे व्रणयुक्तो जनो भवेत् ।
बहुना कण्डुना युक्तो दद्रुणा च विशेषतः ॥६४॥

धनेन पूर्णो निजधर्महीनो धरासुतश्चेदुपवेशनस्थः ॥६५॥
65. balī sadā pāparato naraḥ syādasatyavādī nitarāṃ pragalbhaḥ .

65. If Mars (dharāsuta) is situated in the sitting state, the person will always be powerful and intent on sin. He will be a liar, extremely arrogant, full of wealth, and devoid of his own intrinsic nature (dharma).

दरिद्रता तदा पुंसामन्यभे नगरेशता ॥६६॥

66. When Mars (bhūmisuta) is in the ascendant (lagna) and afflicts the eye and hand, then men experience poverty. However, if Mars is in any other house, it bestows lordship over a city.
प्रकाशो गुणस्यापि वासः प्रकाशे धराधीशभ्रतुः सदा मानवृद्धिः ।
सुते भूसुते पुत्रकान्तावियोगो भवेद्राहुणा दारुणो वा निपातः ॥६७॥

67. When there is a manifestation of virtue and a dwelling in prominence, there is always an increase in honor for the king's supporter. However, if the son of Earth (bhūmisuta) is in the fifth house (suta), there will be separation from children and wife, or a terrible calamity caused by Rahu.
गमने गमनं कुरुतेऽनुदिनं व्रणजालभयं वनिताकलहः ।
बहुदद्रुककण्डुभयं बहुधा वसुधातनयो वसुहानिकरः ॥६८॥

68. The son of Earth (vasudhātanaya) causes daily travel, danger from multiple wounds, quarrels with women, and much fear of skin conditions like ringworm and itching, thereby causing loss of wealth in various ways.

गजहन्ता रिपुहन्ता परिजनसन्तापहारको भौमे ॥६९॥

69. When Mars (bhauma) is in the eleventh house (āgamana), the native is endowed with good qualities, becoming like a terrible sword adorned with a garland of gems, a slayer of elephants and enemies, and a remover of the distress of his dependents.

70. When Mars (bhauma) is in exaltation, the person is skilled in various arts of warfare, an upholder of (dharma), and wealthy. When the son of Earth (bhūmisuta) is in an angle or trine house and associated with assemblies, the man is devoid of knowledge. If Mars is in the twelfth house (anta), the person is devoid of children, wife, and friends. However, if Mars is situated in any other house not mentioned, the person is certainly learned in royal assemblies, very wealthy, honorable, and charitable.

71. When Mars (bhūmija) is present, a person becomes devoid of actions in accordance with natural law (dharma) and duty (karma), afflicted by disease, indeed suffering from severe pain at the root of the ear, timid-minded, and keeps bad company.

73. When Mars (bhūsuta) is situated in "nṛtyalipsā" (a state or sign associated with arts and entertainment), the natives receive abundant wealth (indirārāśi) from the king (bhūmīpati). Their residences are always adorned with gold, jewels, and corals.

74. When Mars (kuja) is in a "kautuka" state (a position of curiosity or amusement), the person is fond of amusement and blessed with many friends and sons. When Mars is exalted (uccaga), the native is adorned with royal residences and honored by people of excellent virtues and those who are a mine of good qualities.

अन्यभे लम्पटो धूर्तो मनुजः शयने बुधे ॥७६॥
76. kṣudhāturo bhavedaṃge khañjo guñjānibhekṣaṇaḥ .

76. If Mercury is in the first house (lagna), the person will be afflicted by hunger, lame, and have reddish eyes like a guñjā berry. If Mercury is in the twelfth house (śayana), this person will be lustful and deceitful.
शशांकपुत्रे जनुरण्गगेहे यदोपवेशे गुणराशिपूर्णः ।
पापेक्षिते पापयुते दरिद्रो हिते शुभे वित्तसुखी मनुष्यः ॥७७॥

77. When Mercury, the son of the Moon (śaśāṅkaputra), is situated in the ascendant (januraṅgageha), the person will be endowed with a multitude of good qualities. If Mercury is aspected by or conjoined with malefic planets, the person will be poor. However, if Mercury is in a beneficial or auspicious state, the person will be happy and prosperous with wealth.
विद्याविवेकरहितो हिततोषहीनो मनी ।

If Mercury, the son of the Moon (candrasuta), is in the second house (akṣi) and third house (pāṇau), a thoughtful person (manī jana) becomes devoid of knowledge and discrimination, and lacking in benefit and contentment. When Mercury is in the fifth house (putrālaya), one is deprived of happiness from children and spouse, and has female progeny (kanyā prajā). If Mercury is in the tenth house (nṛpatigeha), the person is one who desires boons (varārtha).
दाता दयालुः खलु पुण्यकर्ता विकाशने चन्द्रसुते मनुष्यः ।
अनेकविद्यार्णवपारङ्गता विवेकपूर्णः खलवर्गहन्ता ॥७९॥

79. Indeed, when Mercury, the son of the Moon (candrasuta), is in an exalted position, the person will be generous, compassionate, and perform meritorious deeds. Such an individual will be proficient in the vast ocean of many sciences, full of discrimination, and a vanquisher of wicked individuals.
गमनागमने भवतो गमने बहुधा वसुधाधिपतेर्भवने ।
भवनं च विचित्रमलं रमया विदि नुश्च जनुःसमये नितराम् ॥८०॥

81. When (a planet) is exalted in the natal chart at the time of birth, people quickly become well-known. In gatherings, there is an abundance of wealth and a constant increase in merit. Or, one achieves status equal to the lord of wealth (Kubera), or kingship, or ministership. Also, there is pure devotion (bhakti) to the feet of Hari and Hara, and the attainment of liberation (mokṣa).

When Mercury (candraja) is in the house of gain (āgama) at the time of birth (januṣi) for individuals, then through service to the lowly (hīnasevayā), there is the acquisition of wealth (arthasiddhi) and a pair of sons (putrayugmatā). Furthermore, a daughter (bālikā) also becomes a source of great honor (mānadāyikā).

83. When Mercury (candraja) is in the second house ("bhojana") at the time of birth (janmakāle) for individuals, then there is always a loss of wealth (anarthahāni) due to disputes (vādātaḥ). Because of fear of the government (rāja-bhītyā), there is emaciation (kṛśatvam) and mental instability (cañcalatvam). There is no physical intimacy (aṅgasaṅga), no wife (jāyā), and no happiness from a wife (jāyāsukham).

He is a scholar in assemblies (sabhāpaṇḍita) due to the glory of his friends and sons (mitraputrapratāpaiḥ). If (Mercury is) in a malefic sign (pāpabhe), he becomes fond of courtesans (vāravāmārata) and licentious (lampaṭa).

When Mercury (candraja) is in the house of pleasure or intellect ("kautuka") and in the first house (ascendant, "aṅgābha") at the time of birth (janmakāle) for individuals (nṛṇām), then their musical knowledge (gītavidyā) will be flawless (anavadyā). When (Mercury is) in the seventh house (saptame), there is attachment/relations (rati) with a courtesan (vāravadhū). If (Mercury is) in the eighth house ("nidhana"), and in an auspicious sign (puṇyabhe), the intellect (mati) is virtuous (puṇyayuktā) and there is a good destiny (sadgati).

When Mercury (candrasuta) is situated in the twelfth house (the house of sleep), the native finds no comfort in sleep, experiencing a constant state prone to illness and deep mental absorption (vyādhisamādhiyogo). They may have defects among co-born siblings and suffer significant distress. Disputes with their own people and the loss of wealth and honor are also indicated.

87. However, if Mercury, the lord of speech (vacasām adhipa), is strong in the twelfth house at the time of birth, the person (manuja) will have a weak voice despite their inherent strength. They will possess a very fair complexion and, indeed, a long jaw, and will be exceedingly afflicted by fear of enemies.

88. upaveśam gatavati yadi jīve vācālaḥ bahugarvaparītaḥ
kṣoṇīpatiḥ ripujanapatiḥ taptaḥ padajaṅghāsyakaravraṇayuktaḥ
88. If Jupiter (jīva) is situated in the ninth house (upaveśam), the native will be talkative and filled with much pride. They will be tormented by kings and the lords of hostile people, and afflicted by wounds or ulcers on their feet, shanks, mouth, and hands.

When Jupiter (devarājārcita), the planet worshipped by the king of gods, is situated in a house that signifies eyes and hands (netrapāṇim), the native is afflicted by disease and deprived of excellent wealth and prosperity. Such a person is fond of singing and dancing, always sensual, fair-complexioned, and develops affection for those born of different social classes or complexions.

90. If Jupiter (vāṣavaguru) is exalted and quickly attains a radiant splendor, it bestows the joy of virtues and the pure source of happiness. It always grants a mass of brilliance and directs one towards the divine groves of the lord of Vraja (Krishna). Such a placement ensures prominence (gurutva) for people and makes embodied beings equal to Kubera (dhanapati), the lord of wealth.
साहसी भवति मानवः सदा मित्रवर्गसुखपूरितो मुदा ।
पण्डितो विविधवित्तमण्डितो देवविद्यदि गुरौ गमं गते ॥९१॥

91. If the divine preceptor (guru) is positioned in the eleventh house, the person becomes courageous, always filled with the happiness of friends, learned, adorned with various wealth, and knowledgeable in divine matters.
आगमने जनता वरजाया यस्य जनुःसमये हरिमाया ।
मुञ्चति नालमिहालयमद्धा देवगुरौ परितः परिबद्धा ॥९२॥

92. When the divine preceptor (guru) is entirely surrounded, at the birth time of a person, a multitude of excellent women comes, and Lakshmi (the divine power/māyā of Hari) truly does not leave his house, being completely bound there.

सदसि सपदि पूर्णो वित्तमाणिक्यमानैः ।
गजतुरगरथाढ्यो देवताधीशपूज्यो ।

At birth, the person would be a human whose speech is like that of the divine preceptor (guru) (Brihaspati), adorned with bright pearls, immediately distinguished in assemblies with wealth, jewels, and honors, rich in elephants, horses, and chariots, worshipped by kings, and proud of various types of knowledge.
नानावाहनमानयानपटलीसौख्यं गुरावागमे ।
भृत्यापत्यकलत्रमित्रजसुखं विद्याऽनवद्या भवेत् ।
क्षोणीपालसमानतानवरतं चाऽतीव हृद्या मतिः ।

bhṛtyāpatyakalatramitrajasukhaṃ vidyā anavadyā bhavet
kṣoṇīpālasamānatā anavarataṃ ca atīva hṛdyā matiḥ
kāvyānandaratiḥ sadā hinagatiḥ sarvatra māna unnatiḥ
94. When the preceptor (guru) is in the eleventh house (house of gains), there is happiness from various vehicles, honor, and a multitude of conveyances. Immaculate knowledge (vidyā), and happiness from servants, offspring, wife, and friends will arise. Continuously, there will be equality with kings, a very charming intellect, delight in poetry, constant swift progress, and elevation of honor everywhere.
भोजने भवति देवतागुरौ यस्य तस्य सततं सुभोजनम् ।
नैव मुञ्चति रमालयं तदा वाजिवारणरथैश्च मण्डितम् ॥९५॥

95. When the divine preceptor (guru) is in the second house (house of food/wealth), that person will always have excellent food. At that time, Lakshmi's abode (his house), adorned with horses, elephants, and chariots, will certainly never leave him.
नृत्यलिप्सागते राजमानी धनी देवताधीशवन्द्यः सदा धर्मवित् ।
तन्त्रविज्ञो बुधैर्मण्डितः पंडितः शब्दविद्यानविद्यो हि सद्यो जनः ॥९६॥
96. nṛtyalipsāgate rājamānī dhanī devatādhīśavandyaḥ sadā dharmavit .
tantravijño budhairmaṇḍitaḥ paṃḍitaḥ śabdavidyānavidyo hi sadyo janaḥ.

96. A person who is inclined towards dance (nṛtyalipsā) is proud, wealthy, revered by the lords of deities, always knowledgeable about (dharma), an expert in Tantra, adorned by scholars, learned, and indeed, immediately skilled in the science of words.
कुतूहली सकौतुके माहाधनी जनः सदा ।
निजान्वये च भास्करः कृपाकलाधरः सुखी ।
निलिम्पराजपूजिते सुतेन भूनयेन वा ।
युतो महाबली धराधिपेन्द्रसद्मपण्डितः ॥९७॥
97. kutūhalī sakautuke māhādhanī janaḥ sadā .
nijānvaye ca bhāskaraḥ kṛpākalādharaḥ sukhī .
nilimparājapūjite sutena bhūnayena vā .
yuto mahābalī dharādhipendrasadmapaṇḍitaḥ.

97. Such a person is always curious, enthusiastic, and extremely wealthy. Within his own lineage, he shines like the sun (bhāskara), embodying compassion (kṛpā), and is happy. When [a particular planetary influence, often Jupiter (Guru)] is revered by the king of the deities, the person is blessed with a son or a king (bhūnaya), becomes greatly powerful, and is a scholar in the royal court (dharādhipendrasadma).
गुरौ निद्रागते यस्य मूर्खता सर्वकर्मणि ।
दरिद्रतापरिक्रन्तं भवनें पुण्यवर्जितम् ॥९८॥

98. When Jupiter (Guru) is in a debilitated or inactive state, that person's every action (karma) leads to foolishness. His home (bhavana) is overcome by poverty and devoid of spiritual merit (puṇya).

धनेन हीनः शयनं प्रयाते वारांगनासंगमलम्पटश्च ॥९९॥
99. jano balīyānapidantarogī bhṛgau mahāroṣasamanvitaḥ syāt .

99. Even if a person is very strong, he suffers from tooth ailments. When Venus (Bhṛgu) is afflicted by great anger [in the horoscope], he becomes devoid of wealth and, upon going to bed, is lustful for the company of courtesans.
यदि भवेदुशना उपवेशने नवमणिव्रजकाञ्चनभूषणैः ।
सुखमजस्रमरिक्षय आदरादवनिपादपि मानसमुन्नतिः ॥१००॥

100. If Venus (Uśanā) is positioned in the Upaveśana house, adorned with new gems, multitudes of jewels, and golden ornaments, then the person enjoys continuous happiness, the destruction of enemies, and mental elevation, all stemming from the respect received even from kings.

When a planetary influence affects the eyes and hands (netrapāṇiṅgate) in the ascendant house (lagnagehe), and Venus (kavau) is situated in the seventh house (saptame), which is the house of honor (mānabhe), then for such a person, certainly there will be an affliction of the eyes (netrapāte) and a considerable loss of wealth. Furthermore, in another house (anyabhe), a spacious dwelling (vāsaśālā) will be present.

When Venus (bhārgava) is situated in its own sign (svālaye), its exaltation sign (tuṅgabhe), or a friendly sign (mitrabhe), the person (janaḥ) will possess the majestic and graceful bearing of an exalted elephant (tuṅgamātaṅgalīlākalāpī). He will indeed be equal to a king, and having attained prominence (prakāśam gate), will be skilled in poetry, various arts (kalā), and learning, as well as knowledgeable in music (gītavit).

He is also someone who actively seeks (bhramaśālī) wealth and purpose (satyārtha), constantly enthusiastic (nityotsāhī), yet afflicted by diseases of the hands and feet (karāṅghrirogī).

105. anāyāsena alam sapadi mahasā yāti sahasā
pragalbhatvam rājñaḥ sadasi guṇavijñaḥ kila
kavau sabhāyām āyāte ripunivahahantā dhanapateḥ
samatvam vā dātā balaturagagantā naravaraḥ
105. kila guṇavijñaḥ kavau rājñaḥ sadasi anāyāsena alam sapadi sahasā mahasā pragalbhatvam yāti.

105. A discerning poet certainly attains eloquence swiftly and effortlessly through his brilliance in the king's assembly. When an excellent man, who is a slayer of enemy multitudes, arrives in the assembly, he attains a status equal to that of the lord of wealth, or a generous giver, or one who travels on mighty horses.
आगमे भार्गवे मागमो जन्मिनामर्थराशेररातेरतीव क्षतिः ।
पुत्रपातो निपातो जनानामपिव्याधिभीतिः प्रियाभोगहानिर्भवेत् ॥१०६॥

106. When Venus (Bhārgava) is in an inauspicious position, there will be misfortune for people, a great loss of accumulated wealth, and severe damage from enemies. There will also be loss of children, calamity for people, fear of disease, and deprivation of conjugal pleasure.
क्षुधातुरो व्याधिनिपीडितः स्यादनेकधारातिभयर्द्दितश्च ।
कवौ यदा भोजनगे युवत्या महाधनी पण्डितमण्डितश्च ॥१०७॥

107. When Venus (kavi) is in the second house (the house of sustenance), the native may become afflicted by hunger, tormented by disease, and distressed by severe fear from various sources. Alternatively, such a person will be very wealthy, honored by scholars, and enjoy the company of a young woman.
काव्यविद्यानवद्या च हृद्या मतिः सर्वदा नृत्यलिप्सागते भार्गवे ।

When Venus (Bhārgava) is situated in the house indicating a desire for dance, the native will always possess flawless knowledge of poetry, a pleasing intellect, and expertise in the various sounds of instruments like the conch, vīṇā, and mṛdaṅga, as well as singing. Such a person will also experience an increase in wealth.
कौतुकभवनं गतवति शुक्रे शक्रेशत्वं सदसि महत्त्वम् ।
हृद्या विद्या भविति च पुंसः पदमा निवसति सदमारतः ॥१०९॥

109. When Venus (Śukra) is situated in the house of festivity or amusement, a person attains sovereignty like Indra, importance in assemblies, and pleasing knowledge. For such a man, Lakṣmī (Padmā) dwells, and he is devoted to his home.
परसेवारतो नित्यं निद्रामुपगते कवौ ।
परनिन्दापरो वीरो वाचालो भ्रमते महीम् ॥११०॥

110. When Venus (kavi) has fallen into an inauspicious state (like 'sleep'), the native is constantly devoted to serving others, prone to criticizing others, brave, talkative, and wanders the earth.

वयसि प्रथमे रोगी ततो भाग्यवतां वरः ॥१११॥

112. If Saturn, the son of the Sun, is situated in the fourth house, the person will be tormented by fierce enemies and people. Such a person will indeed be short-lived, afflicted by skin diseases, proud, and subjected to royal punishment.

113. If Saturn, the son of the Sun, is situated in the second and third houses, the person will be endowed with supreme wealth and delight. They will receive benefits from the king and from well-wishers, will be a source of great satisfaction, skilled in many arts, and will speak pure and faultless words.
नानागुणप्रामधनाधिशाली सदा नरो बुद्धिविनोदमाली ।
प्रकाशने भानुसुते सुभानुः कृपानुतक्तो हरपादभक्तः ॥११४॥
114. nānāguṇaprāmadhanādhiśālī sadā naro buddhivinodamālī .

114. When Saturn, the son of the Sun, is in the tenth house (prakāśane), the person will always possess various virtues, excellent wealth, and supremacy. Such a person delights in intelligence, has good radiance, is devoted to compassion, and is a devotee (bhakta) of Lord Shiva's feet.
महाधनी नन्दननन्दितः स्यादपायकारी रिपुभूमिहारी ।
गमे शनौ पण्डितराजाभावं धरापतेरायातने प्रयाति ॥११५॥
115. mahādhanī nandanananditaḥ syādapāyakārī ripubhūmihārī .
game śanau paṇḍitarājābhāvaṃ dharāpaterāyātane prayāti.

115. If Saturn is in the seventh house, the person will be very wealthy, delighted by sons, prone to causing harm, and one who seizes the lands of enemies. If Saturn is in the eleventh house, the person attains the status of a supreme scholar and approaches the ruler for gains.
आगमने गर्दभपदयुक्तः पुत्रकलत्रसुखेन विमुक्तः ।
भानुसुते भ्रमते भुवि नित्यं दीनमना विजनाश्रयभावम् ॥११६॥

116. When Saturn (bhānusuta) is in transit, constantly moving on earth, a person travels with a donkey-like gait, is deprived of happiness from his son and wife, becomes dejected in mind, and develops a disposition to seek refuge in desolate places.
रत्नावलीकाञ्चनमौक्तिकानां व्रातेन नित्यं व्रजति प्रमोदम् ।
सभागते भानुसुते नितान्तं नयेन पूर्णो मनुजो महौजाः ॥११७॥
117. ratnāvalīkāñcanamauktikānāṃ vrātena nityaṃ vrajati pramodam .
sabhāgate bhānusute nitāntaṃ nayena pūrṇo manujo mahaujāḥ.

117. When Saturn (bhānusuta) is present in an assembly, the person becomes exceedingly full of prudence (naya) and mighty (mahaujāḥ). He constantly attains great joy from an abundance of necklaces of jewels, gold, and pearls.
आगमे गदसमागमो नृणामब्जबन्धुतनये यदा तदा ।
मन्दमेव गमनं धरापतेर्याचनाविरहिता मतिः सदा ॥११८॥
118. āgame gadasamāgamo nṛṇāmabjabandhutanaye yadā tadā .

118. When the son of the Sun (abjabandhutanaya), Saturn, is in transit, then there is an occurrence of diseases for people. The progress of the ruler (dharāpati) is very slow, and his mind is always free from any desire to beg.
संगते जनुषि भानुनन्दने भोजनं भवति भोजनं रसैः ।
संयुतं नयनमन्दता तता मोहतापपरितापिता मतिः ॥११९॥
119. saṃgate januṣi bhānunandane bhojanaṃ bhavati bhojanaṃ rasaiḥ .
saṃyutaṃ nayanamandatā tatā mohatāpaparitāpitā matiḥ.

119. When Saturn (bhānunandana) is united in the natal chart, eating becomes merely sustenance, though it includes various tastes; there is widespread dimness of vision, and the mind is afflicted by the distress of delusion.
नृत्यलिप्सागते मन्दे धर्मात्मा वित्तपूरितः ।
राजपूज्यो नरो धीरो महावीरो रणाङ्गणे ॥१२०॥
120. nṛtyalipsāgate mande dharmātmā vittapūritaḥ .

120. When Saturn (manda) is disposed towards the desire for dance, a man becomes virtuous (dharmātmā), filled with wealth, honored by kings, firm (dhīra), and a great hero (mahāvīra) on the battlefield.
भवति कौतकभावमुपागते रविसुते वसुधावसुपूरितः ।
अतिसुखी सुमुखीसुखपूरितः कवितयामलया कलयानरः ॥१२१॥
121. bhavati kautakabhāvamupāgate ravisute vasudhāvasupūritaḥ .

121. When Saturn (ravisuta) attains a state of exaltation, a man becomes filled with earthly wealth, extremely happy, and endowed with the happiness from beautiful women, possessing pure poetry and art.
निद्रागते वासरनाथपुत्रे धनी सदा चारुगुणैरुपेतः ।
पराक्रमी चण्डविपक्षहन्ता सुवारकान्तारतिरीतिविज्ञः ॥१२२॥
122. nidrāgate vāsaranāthaputre dhanī sadā cāruguṇairupetaḥ .

122. When Saturn (vāsaraputra) is in a debilitated or inactive state (nidrāgata), a man becomes wealthy, always endowed with beautiful qualities, valiant, a destroyer of fierce enemies, and knowledgeable in the ways of pleasure with beautiful women.
यदागमो जन्मनि यस्य राहौ क्लेशाधिकत्वं शयनं प्रयाते ।
वृषेऽथ युग्मेऽपि च कन्यकायामजे समाजो धनधान्यराशेः ॥१२३॥
123. yadāgamo janmani yasya rāhau kleśādhikatvaṃ śayanaṃ prayāte .
vṛṣe'tha yugme'pi ca kanyakāyāmaje samājo dhanadhānyarāśeḥ.

123. When Rāhu's presence at a person's birth (janmani yasya) indicates that Rāhu has gone to the 'sleep' state (śayanaṃ prayāte), there will be an abundance of troubles (kleśādhikatva). However, if Rāhu is in Taurus (vṛṣa), Gemini (yugma), Virgo (kanyakā), or Aries (aja), there will be an accumulation of wealth and grain.
उपवेशनमिह गतवति राहौ दद्रुगदेन जनः परितप्तः ।
राजसमाजयुतो बहुमानी वित्तसुखेन सदा रहितः स्यात् ॥१२४॥

124. When Rāhu here has gone to the 'sitting' state (upaveśana), the person (jana) becomes afflicted with skin diseases. (Such a person) may always be devoid of the happiness of wealth, even if associated with royal assemblies and highly respected.
नेत्रपाणावगौ नेत्रे भवतो रोगपीडिते ।
दुष्टव्यालारिचौराणां भयं तस्य धनक्षयः ॥१२५॥
125. netrapāṇāvagau netre bhavato rogapīḍite .
duṣṭavyālāricaurāṇāṃ bhayaṃ tasya dhanakṣayaḥ.

125. When two malefic planets (agau, e.g., Rāhu and Ketu) are in the 2nd (netra) and 5th (pāṇi) houses, the two eyes (netre) become afflicted by disease. He experiences fear from wicked serpents, enemies, and thieves, and suffers loss of wealth.
प्रकाशने शुभासने स्थितिः कृतिः शुभा नृणां ।
धनोन्नतिर्गुणोन्नतिः सदा विदामगाविह ।
धराधिपाधिकारिता यशोलता तता भवे ।
न्नवीननीरदाकृतिर्विदेशतो महोन्नतिः ॥१२६॥
126. prakāśane śubhāsane sthitiḥ kṛtiḥ śubhā nṛṇāṃ .

bhavet navīnanīradākṛtiḥ videśataḥ mahonnatiḥ
126. nṛṇām prakāśane śubhāsane sthitiḥ śubhā kṛtiḥ (ca) (bhavati).
vidām sadā dhanonnatiḥ guṇonnatiḥ agāviha (bhavati).
dharādhipādhikāritā tatā yaśolatā navīnanīradākṛtiḥ mahonnatiḥ videśataḥ bhavet.
126. For people, an auspicious position and good actions bring about a stable state. For the wise, the increase in wealth and virtues is always firmly established in this world. May authority over the land, extensive fame, and great prosperity, resembling newly formed clouds, come from abroad.
गमने च यदा राहौ बहुसन्तानवान्नरः ।
पण्डितो धनवान् दाता राजपूज्यो नरो भवेत् ॥१२७॥
127. gamane ca yadā rāhau bahusantānavānnaraḥ .

127. When Rāhu is in transit, a person becomes one with many descendants, learned, wealthy, generous, and respected by kings.
राहावागमने क्रोधी सदा धीधनवर्जितः ।
कुटिलः कृपणः कामी नरो भवति सर्वथा ॥१२८॥
128. rāhāvāgamane krodhī sadā dhīdhanavarjitaḥ .
kuṭilaḥ kṛpaṇaḥ kāmī naro bhavati sarvathā.

128. When Rāhu is in the ascending node, a person always becomes angry, deprived of intelligence and wealth, crooked, miserly, and lustful in all respects.
सभागतो यदा राहुः पण्डितः कृपणो नरः ।
नानागुणपरिक्रान्तो वित्त सौख्यसमन्वितः ॥१२९॥
129. sabhāgato yadā rāhuḥ paṇḍitaḥ kṛpaṇo naraḥ .

129. When Rahu is present in an assembly, a person is learned, miserly, endowed with various qualities, and associated with wealth and happiness.
चेदगावागमं यस्य याते तदा व्याकुलत्वं सदारातिभीत्या भयम् ।
महद्बन्धुवादो जनानां निपातो भवेद्वित्तहानिः शठत्वं कृशत्वं ॥१३०॥
130. cedagāvāgamaṃ yasya yāte tadā vyākulatvaṃ sadārātibhītyā bhayam .
mahadbandhuvādo janānāṃ nipāto bhavedvittahāniḥ śaṭhatvaṃ kṛśatvaṃ.
130. cet agāvāgamam yasya yāte tadā

130. If, for someone, an unfavorable event occurs, then there is agitation, fear accompanied by his wife due to the terror of enemies. There will be widespread criticism from relatives, ruin among people, loss of wealth, deceit, and weakness.
भोजने भोजनेनालं विकलो मनुजो भवेत् ।
मन्दबुद्धिः क्रियाभीरुः स्त्रीपुत्रसुखवर्जितः ॥१३१॥
131. bhojane bhojanenālaṃ vikalo manujo bhavet .
mandabuddhiḥ kriyābhīruḥ strīputrasukhavarjitaḥ.

131. One who indulges excessively in food becomes afflicted. Such a person is dull-witted, fearful of action, and deprived of the happiness of a wife and children.
नृत्यलिप्सागते राहौ महाव्याधिविवर्द्धनम् ।
नेत्ररोगी रिपोर्भीतिर्धनधर्मक्षयो नृणाम् ॥१३२॥
132. nṛtyalipsāgate rāhau mahāvyādhivivarddhanam .

132. When Rāhu is situated in a state or sign indicating a desire for dancing, it leads to a great increase in diseases, eye ailments, fear from enemies, and loss of wealth and (dharma) for people.
कौतुके च यदा राहौ स्थानहीनो नरो भवेत् ।
परदाररतो नित्यं परवित्तापहारकः ॥१३३॥
133. kautuke ca yadā rāhau sthānahīno naro bhavet .
paradārarato nityaṃ paravittāpahārakaḥ.

133. And when Rāhu is in a position indicating amusement or curiosity, the person becomes deprived of their place or position. They are always engaged with other men's wives and steal others' wealth.
निद्रावस्थां गते राहौ गुणग्रामयुतो नरः ।
कान्तासन्तानवान् धीरो गर्वितो बहुवित्तवान् ॥१३४॥
134. nidrāvasthāṃ gate rāhau guṇagrāmayuto naraḥ .

134. When Rāhu is in a state of sleep (or weakness), a person becomes endowed with many good qualities, possesses a beloved wife and children, is courageous, dignified, and wealthy.
मेषे वृषेऽथ वा युग्मे कन्ययां शयनं गते ।
केतौ धनसमृद्धिः स्यादन्यभे रोगवर्धनम् ॥१३५॥
135. meṣe vṛṣe'tha vā yugme kanyayāṃ śayanaṃ gate .
ketau dhanasamṛddhiḥ syādanyabhe rogavardhanam.

135. When Ketu is in Aries, Taurus, or Gemini, or when Ketu is in a dormant state in Virgo, there is prosperity of wealth. In other signs, there is an increase in diseases.
उपवेशं गतौ केतौ दद्रुरोगविवर्द्धनम् ।
अरिवातनृपव्यालचैरशंका समन्ततः ॥१३६॥

136. When Ketu is situated in an occupied or 'seated' position, it leads to an increase in skin diseases and constant fear from enemies, wind-related ailments, rulers, wild animals, and thieves from all directions.
नेत्रपाणिं गते केतौ नेत्ररोगः प्रजायते ।
दुष्टसर्पादिभीतिश्च रिपुराजकुलादपि ॥१३७॥
137. netrapāṇiṃ gate ketau netrarogaḥ prajāyate .
duṣṭasarpādibhītiśca ripurājakulādapi.

137. When Ketu is situated in a position affecting the eyes and hands, eye diseases occur. Additionally, there is fear of venomous snakes and other creatures, as well as from enemies and the ruling class.
केतौ प्रकाशने संज्ञे धनवान् धार्मिकः सदा ।
नित्यं प्रवासी चोत्साही सात्त्विको राजसेवकः ॥१३८॥
138. ketau prakāśane saṃjñe dhanavān dhārmikaḥ sadā .
nityaṃ pravāsī cotsāhī sāttviko rājasevakaḥ.

138. When Ketu is in a prominent and well-recognized position, the individual becomes wealthy, always righteous (dhārmika), a constant traveler, enthusiastic, of pure nature (sāttvika), and a servant of the king.
गमेच्छायां भवेत्केतुर्बहुपुत्रो महाधनः ।
पण्डितो गुणवान् दाता जायते च नरोत्तमः ॥१३९॥
139. gamecchāyāṃ bhavetketurbahuputro mahādhanaḥ .
paṇḍito guṇavān dātā jāyate ca narottamaḥ.

139. When Ketu is in a position signifying a desire for travel or movement (gamecchāyām), the person has many children, is extremely wealthy, learned, virtuous, generous, and becomes an excellent individual.
आगमने च यदा केतुर्नानारोगो धनक्षयः ।
दन्तघाती महारोगी पिशुनः परनिन्दकः ॥१४०॥
140. āgamane ca yadā keturnānārogo dhanakṣayaḥ .
dantaghātī mahārogī piśunaḥ paranindakaḥ.

140. And when Ketu is in a position signifying 'arrival' or 'coming' (āgamane), there are various diseases, loss of wealth, dental problems, severe illness, and the person becomes a backbiter and slanderer of others.
सभावस्थां गते केतौ वाचालो बहुगर्वितः ।
कृपणो लम्पटश्चैव धूर्तविद्द्याविशारदः ॥१४१॥
141. sabhāvasthāṃ gate ketau vācālo bahugarvitaḥ .
kṛpaṇo lampaṭaścaiva dhūrtaviddyāviśāradaḥ.

141. When Ketu is situated in a particular state, the person becomes talkative, very proud, miserly, lustful, and skilled in deceptive arts.
यदागमे भवेत्केतुः केतुः स्यात्पापकर्मणाम् ।
बन्धुवादरतो दुष्टो रिपुरोगनिपीडितः ॥१४२॥
142. yadāgame bhavetketuḥ ketuḥ syātpāpakarmaṇām .
bandhuvādarato duṣṭo ripuroganipīḍitaḥ.

142. When Ketu is present, the person will be involved in sinful acts (karma), fond of disputes concerning relatives, wicked, and afflicted by enemies and diseases.
भोजने तु जनो नित्यं क्षुधया परिपीडितः ।
दरिद्रो रोगसंतप्तः केतौ भ्रामति मेदिनीम् ॥१४३॥
143. bhojane tu jano nityaṃ kṣudhayā paripīḍitaḥ .
daridro rogasaṃtaptaḥ ketau bhrāmati medinīm.

143. When Ketu is present, a person is always tormented by hunger concerning food, poor, afflicted by diseases, and wanders the earth.

बुद्बुदाक्षो दुराघर्षो धूर्तोऽनर्थकरो नरः ॥१४४॥
144. nṛtyalipsāṅgate ketau vyādhinā vikalo bhavet .
budbudākṣo durāgharṣo dhūrto'narthakaro naraḥ.

144. When Ketu influences the desire for dance, the person becomes afflicted with disease, having bulging eyes, difficult to conquer, deceitful, and a bringer of misfortune.
कौतुकी कौतुके केतौ नटवामारतिप्रियः ।
स्थानभ्रष्टो दुराचारी दरिद्रो भ्रमते महीम् ॥१४५॥
145. kautukī kautuke ketau naṭavāmāratipriyaḥ .
sthānabhraṣṭo durācārī daridro bhramate mahīm.

145. When Ketu is in a state related to curiosity or amusement, the person is inquisitive, fond of actors and women, fallen from his position, of bad conduct, poor, and wanders the earth.
निद्रावस्थां गते केतौ धनधान्यसुखं महत् ।
नानागुणविनोदेन कालो गच्छति जन्मिनाम् ॥१४६॥

146. When Ketu enters the sleep (nidrā) state, there is great wealth, grain, and happiness. The time of natives is spent in various enjoyable activities and with many virtues.
शयने द्विज भावेषु यत्र तिष्ठन्ति सद्ग्रहाः ।
नित्यं तस्य शुभज्ञानं निर्विशंकं वदेत् बुधः ॥१४७॥
147. śayane dvija bhāveṣu yatra tiṣṭhanti sadgrahāḥ .
nityaṃ tasya śubhajñānaṃ nirviśaṃkaṃ vadet budhaḥ.
147. śayane dvija bhāveṣu yatra tiṣṭhanti satgrahāḥ
nityam tasya śubhajnānam nirviśaṅkam vadet budhaḥ
147. If benefic planets (sadgraha) are situated in any houses in the "śayana" (sleep) state, O twice-born (dvija), a wise person (budha) should always declare an auspicious outcome for the native without any doubt.
भोजने येषु भावेषु पापास्तिष्ठन्ति सर्वथा ।
तदा सर्वविनाशेऽपि नाऽत्र कार्या विचारणा ॥१४८॥
148. bhojane yeṣu bhāveṣu pāpāstiṣṭhanti sarvathā .
tadā sarvavināśe'pi nā'tra kāryā vicāraṇā.

148. If malefic planets (pāpa) are always situated in the houses that are in the "bhojana" (eating) state, then, total destruction (sarvavināśa) is certain, and no further deliberation is necessary here.
निद्रायां च यदा पापो जायास्थाने शुभं वदेत् ।
यदि पापग्रहैर्दृष्टो न शुभं च कदाचन ॥१४९॥
149. nidrāyāṃ ca yadā pāpo jāyāsthāne śubhaṃ vadet .
yadi pāpagrahairdṛṣṭo na śubhaṃ ca kadācana.
149. nidrāyām ca yadā pāpaḥ jāyāsthāne śubham vadet
yadi pāpagrahaiḥ dṛṣṭaḥ na śubham ca kadācana
149. When a malefic planet (pāpa) is in the "nidrā" (sleep) state, one should predict auspicious results for the house of spouse (jāyāsthāna). However, if it is aspected by other malefic planets, then there is never any auspiciousness.
सुतस्थाने स्थितः पापो निद्रायां शयनेऽपि वा ।
तदा शुभं वदेत्तस्य नाऽत्र कार्या विचारणा ॥१५०॥
150. sutasthāne sthitaḥ pāpo nidrāyāṃ śayane'pi vā .
tadā śubhaṃ vadettasya nā'tra kāryā vicāraṇā.

150. If a malefic planet (pāpa) is situated in the house of children (sutasthāna), either in the "nidrā" (sleep) state or the "śayana" (lying down) state, then one should declare auspicious results for the native. No further deliberation is necessary in this matter.
मृत्युस्थानस्थितः पापो निद्रायां शयनेऽपि वा ।
तदा तस्याऽपमृत्युः स्याद्राजतः परतस्तथा ॥१५१॥
151. mṛtyusthānasthitaḥ pāpo nidrāyāṃ śayane'pi vā .
tadā tasyā'pamṛtyuḥ syādrājataḥ paratastathā.
151. mṛtyusthānasthitaḥ pāpaḥ nidrāyām śayane api vā
tadā tasya apamṛtyuḥ syāt rājataḥ parataḥ tathā
151. If a malefic planet is situated in the house of death (the 8th house) when one is in a state of sleep or rest, then that person may experience an untimely death, possibly due to authorities or other external causes.
शुभग्रहैर्यदा युक्तः शुभैर्वा यदि वीक्षितः ।
तदा तु मरणं तस्य गङ्गादौ च विशेषतः ॥१५२॥
152. śubhagrahairyadā yuktaḥ śubhairvā yadi vīkṣitaḥ .
tadā tu maraṇaṃ tasya gaṅgādau ca viśeṣataḥ.

152. However, if (the indicator of death, e.g., the 8th house or its lord) is conjoined with auspicious planets, or if it is aspected by auspicious planets, then that person's death will indeed occur, particularly in sacred places like the Ganges (river) or similar holy sites.
कर्मस्थाने यदा पापः शयने भोजनेऽपि वा ।
तदा कर्मविपाकः स्यान्नानादुःखप्रदायकः ॥१५३॥
153. karmasthāne yadā pāpaḥ śayane bhojane'pi vā .
tadā karmavipākaḥ syānnānāduḥkhapradāyakaḥ.

153. If a malefic planet is situated in the house of action (the 10th house), even during periods of rest or while eating, then the consequences of past actions (karma) would manifest, bringing various kinds of suffering.
दशमस्थो निशानाथः कौतुके च प्रकाशने ।
तदैव राजयोगः स्यान्निर्विशकं द्विजोत्तम ॥१५४॥
154. daśamastho niśānāthaḥ kautuke ca prakāśane .
tadaiva rājayogaḥ syānnirviśakaṃ dvijottama.

154. When the Moon, the lord of the night, is situated in the tenth house, (especially) during times of joy and public display, then a royal combination (rājayoga) certainly occurs, O best among the twice-born.
बलाऽबलविचारेण ज्ञातव्यञ्च शुभाऽशुभम् ।
एवं क्रमेण बोद्धव्यं सर्वाभावेषु बुद्धिमन् ॥१५५॥
155. balā'balavicāreṇa jñātavyañca śubhā'śubham .
evaṃ krameṇa boddhavyaṃ sarvābhāveṣu buddhiman.
155. bala abala vicāreṇa jñātavyam ca śubha aśubham
evam krameṇa boddhavyam sarva abhāveṣu buddhiman
155. One should discern both auspicious and inauspicious outcomes by considering the strengths and weaknesses (of planets or houses). In this way, O intelligent one, this principle should be progressively understood for all the astrological houses (bhāvas).
