1.
O sage (muni), I have heard many wealth-giving combinations (yoga) from you. O lord, please mercifully tell me about the combinations (yoga) that cause poverty.

When the lord of the Ascendant (lagneśa) is in the house of expenditure (vyayasthāna) and the lord of expenditure (vyayeśa) has entered the Ascendant (lagna), and if this configuration is conjoined with or aspected by a death-inflicting planet (mārakeśa), then a person becomes poor.

If the lord of the ascendant is situated in the sixth house, and the lord of the sixth house has entered the ascendant, and either of these lords is conjoined with or aspected by a death-inflicting planet (mārakeśa), then the person is born devoid of wealth.

If the lord of the ascendant and the Moon are conjoined with Ketu, and when the lord of the ascendant is situated in the eighth house and is conjoined with or aspected by a death-inflicting planet (mārakeśa), then the person born will certainly become devoid of wealth.

If the lord of the ascendant is situated in the sixth, eighth, or twelfth house and is conjoined with a malefic planet, and if the lord of wealth (the second house) is in an enemy's sign and in a state of debilitation, then even a person born in a royal lineage will be devoid of wealth.

If the lord of the ascendant is conjoined with the lord of a trika house (6th, 8th, or 12th), or aspected by a malefic planet, or conjoined with Saturn, or un-aspected by benefics, then such a person will be devoid of wealth.

If the lord of the fifth house and the lord of the ninth house (dharma) are situated respectively in the sixth and twelfth houses, and if they are aspected by a death-inflicting planet (mārakeśa), then such a person is born devoid of wealth.

If malefic planets are in the ascendant, and the lords of the tenth and ninth houses are absent (from auspicious positions), and if the ascendant is conjoined with or aspected by a killer planet (mārakeśa), then the native will be poor.

If the lords of the trika houses (the 6th, 8th, and 12th) are situated in a particular house, and the lord of that specific house is then situated in a trika house, and this planetary configuration is aspected by or conjoined with malefic planets, the native becomes afflicted by sorrow and is poor.

If the lord of the ascendant and the lord of the navamsha sign of the ascendant are situated in the twelfth (riṣpha), eighth (randhra), or sixth (ari) houses, and if they are conjoined with or aspected by a killer planet (mārakeśa), then that native is poor.

If malefic planets are situated in auspicious houses and benefic planets are situated in inauspicious houses, the native becomes poor and suffers from lack of food.

13.
Planets that lack the aspect of the lords of trine houses (1st, 5th, 9th) and are associated with the lords of the "trika" houses (6th, 8th, 12th) are all considered to cause financial loss during their own planetary periods (daśā).

14.
O best of Brahmins (dvijottama), if, counting either from the significator (kāraka) or from the ascendant, there are planets in the 8th or 12th houses, and these positions are aspected by the significator and the ascendant, then a person becomes deprived of wealth.

15.
If the lord of the significator (kāraka) aspects its own 12th house (vyaya), and the lord of the ascendant aspects the 12th house (vyaya) from the ascendant, then the native will certainly be prone to excessive expenditure.

16.
Now I will explain the planetary combinations that cause poverty, along with their potential cancellations. Indeed, Mars and Saturn, when situated in the 2nd house (house of wealth), are said to be destroyers of wealth.
बुधेक्षितौ महावित्तं कुरुतो नात्र संशयः ।

niḥsvatām kurute tatra raviḥ nityam yama-īkṣitaḥ
niḥsvatām kurute tatra raviḥ nityam yama-īkṣitaḥ
17.
However, if these two (Mars and Saturn, mentioned in the previous verse) are aspected by Mercury, they create great wealth; there is no doubt about this. On the other hand, the Sun, when aspected by Saturn (Yama), always causes poverty.
महाधनयुतं ख्यातं शन्यदृष्टः करोत्यसौ ।

śaniḥ ca api raveḥ dṛṣṭyā phalam evam prayacchati
śaniḥ ca api raveḥ dṛṣṭyā phalam evam prayacchati
18.
That (combination) which is not aspected by Saturn makes one endowed with great wealth and famous. And Saturn, when aspected by the Sun, also produces such a result.
