1.
O Maitreya, for children born with the *darśajāta* affliction (e.g., during the new moon), their parents face destitution. Therefore, a discerning person should perform propitiatory rituals (śānti) to alleviate this defect.

First, having duly performed the ceremonial installation of the sacred pot (kalaśa), one should then take the leaves (pallava) of the udumbara (cluster fig), aṭa (a specific tree), aśvattha (sacred fig), and cūta (mango) trees.

Additionally, the roots and barks of these trees (udumbara, aṭa, aśvattha, cūta) along with neem (nimba) should be placed inside. After depositing the five gems (pañcaratna), one should then ritualistically adorn it with a pair of cloths.

After invoking (the waters) with the (mantra) 'sarve samudra iti' and the three verses (mantras) beginning with 'āpo hiṣṭhā', one should then place that (water) in a pitcher in the southeast corner.

Then, for the two deities of the new moon day (darśa) – the Moon and the Sun – one should prepare images made of gold (as the primary one), and similarly, in sequential order, images made of silver and copper.

Using the "mantra" 'āpyāyasva' (for the Moon), and subsequently (a "mantra" for) Savitā (the Sun), one should meticulously worship those very (deities/images) with ritual offerings (upacāra), and thereafter perform a fire sacrifice (homa).

The wise observer of a vow (vrati) should, in proper order, offer fire sticks (samidh) and cooked oblation (caru) (into the fire). This should be done with devotion (bhakti), using the Savitṛ "mantra" (for Savitā), and also (for) Soma and the cow, by means of (appropriate) "mantra"s.

One should perform the anointing (abhiṣeka) ritual, either 108 times or 28 times, for the couple and their well-behaved sons.

9.
Gold, silver, and a black cow constitute the sacrificial fee (dakṣiṇā). One should feed Brahmins according to one's capacity (śakti), and thereafter, one will attain welfare.
