कृष्णपक्षचतुर्दश्याः षड्भागेषु फलं क्रमात् ।
जन्म चेत् प्रथमे भागे तदा ज्ञेयं शुभं द्विज ॥१॥

1. Regarding the results (phala) of the six divisions (ṣaḍbhāgeṣu) of the fourteenth day (caturdaśī) of the dark lunar fortnight (kṛṣṇapakṣa), consider them sequentially. O twice-born (dvija), if a birth occurs in the first division, then it should be understood as auspicious.
द्वितीये पितरं हन्ति मातरं च तृतीयके ।
चतुर्थे मातुलं चैव पञ्चमे वंशनाशनम् ॥२॥
2. dvitīye pitaraṃ hanti mātaraṃ ca tṛtīyake .

2. If birth occurs in the second division, it causes harm to the father; in the third, to the mother. In the fourth, it affects the maternal uncle, and in the fifth, it brings about the destruction of the lineage (vaṃśanāśanam).
षष्ठे तु धननाशः स्यादात्मनो नाश एव वा ।
तद्दोषपरिहारार्थं शान्तिं कुर्याद् प्रयत्नतः ॥३॥
3. ṣaṣṭhe tu dhananāśaḥ syādātmano nāśa eva vā .
taddoṣaparihārārthaṃ śāntiṃ kuryād prayatnataḥ.

3. If the sixth house is afflicted, there may be a loss of wealth or even a destruction of the self (ātman). Therefore, to avert this fault, one should diligently perform a propitiation ritual (śānti).
शिवस्य प्रतिमां कुर्यात् सौवर्णीं कर्षसम्मिताम् ।
तदर्धार्धमितां वाऽपि यथावित्तं मनोहराम् ॥४॥
4. śivasya pratimāṃ kuryāt sauvarṇīṃ karṣasammitām .
tadardhārdhamitāṃ vā'pi yathāvittaṃ manoharām.

4. One should make a golden image of Shiva (Śiva). It should be equal in weight to one karṣa, or even one-fourth of a karṣa, depending on one's financial means, and it should be beautiful.
बालचन्द्रकिरीटाञ्च श्वेतमाल्याम्बरान्विताम् ।
त्रिनेत्रां च वृषासीनां वराभयकरामथ ॥५॥
5. bālacandrakirīṭāñca śvetamālyāmbarānvitām .

5. The image should have a crescent moon as its crown, be adorned with white garlands and garments, possess three eyes, be seated on a bull, and have hands displaying the gestures of granting boons (vara mudrā) and dispelling fear (abhaya mudrā).
त्रयम्बकं चेति मन्त्रेण पूजां कुर्यादतन्द्रितः ।
आवाह्य वारुणैर्मन्त्रैराचार्यो मन्त्रतत्त्ववित् ॥६॥
6. trayambakaṃ ceti mantreṇa pūjāṃ kuryādatandritaḥ .
āvāhya vāruṇairmantrairācāryo mantratattvavit.

āvāhya vāruṇaiḥ mantraiḥ ācāryaḥ mantratattvavit
6. The preceptor (ācārya), who understands the essence of mantras (mantratattvavit), should diligently perform the worship (pūjā) using the Tryambakaṃ mantra, after invoking (the deity) with Vedic verses (mantra) associated with Varuṇa.
इमं मे वरुणे त्येवं तत्त्वा यामी त्यृचा पुनः ।
त्त्वन्न अग्ने इत्यनया सत्वं नो इत्यृचापि च ॥७॥
7. imaṃ me varuṇe tyevaṃ tattvā yāmī tyṛcā punaḥ .
ttvanna agne ityanayā satvaṃ no ityṛcāpi ca.
7. imaṃ me varuṇe iti evaṃ tattvā yāmī iti ṛcā punaḥ
tvam na agne iti anayā sa tvam naḥ iti ṛcā api ca
7. One should recite the hymn (starting with) 'Imaṃ me varuṇe', and again with the hymn (starting with) 'Tattvā yāmī'. Similarly, one should recite with (the hymn starting with) 'Tvaṃ na agne' and also with the hymn (starting with) 'Sa tvaṃ naḥ'.
आग्नेयं कुम्भमारभ्य पूजयेद् भक्तितः क्रमात् ।
आ नोभद्रेति सूक्तं च भद्रा अग्नेश्च सूक्तकम् ॥८॥
8. āgneyaṃ kumbhamārabhya pūjayed bhaktitaḥ kramāt .
ā nobhadreti sūktaṃ ca bhadrā agneśca sūktakam.
8. āgneyaṃ kumbham ārabhyā pūjayet bhaktitaḥ kramāt ā
naḥ bhadrā iti sūktaṃ ca bhadrā agneḥ ca sūktakam
8. Beginning with the fire-pot (āgneya kumbha), one should worship sequentially with devotion (bhakti). One should recite the hymn (sūkta) 'Ā no bhadrāḥ' and also the hymn 'Bhadrā agneḥ'.
जप्त्वा पुरुषसूक्तं च कन्द्रुद्रेति तथा जपेत् ।
शङ्करस्याऽभिषेकं च ग्रहपूजां च कारयेत् ॥९॥
9. japtvā puruṣasūktaṃ ca kandrudreti tathā japet .
śaṅkarasyā'bhiṣekaṃ ca grahapūjāṃ ca kārayet.
9. japtvā puruṣasūktaṃ ca kam rudra iti tathā japet
śaṅkarasya abhiṣekaṃ ca grahapūjāṃ ca kārayet
9. After chanting the Puruṣa Sūkta, one should similarly chant (the hymn starting with) 'Kaṃ rudra'. One should also perform the ceremonial bathing (abhiṣeka) of Shankara, and arrange for the worship of the planets (graha pūjā).
समिदाज्यचरूंश्चैव तिलमाषांश्च सर्पपान् ।
अश्वस्थल्पक्षपालासखादिराः समिधः शुभाः ॥१०॥
10. samidājyacarūṃścaiva tilamāṣāṃśca sarpapān .
aśvasthalpakṣapālāsakhādirāḥ samidhaḥ śubhāḥ.

10. Fuel sticks, clarified butter, and cooked oblations, indeed, as well as sesame, black gram, and mustard seeds (are prescribed). Auspicious fuel sticks are (from trees like) Aśvattha, Udumbara, Palāśa, and Khadira.
अष्टोत्तरशतं वह्नौ जुहुयाद् विधिपूर्वकम् ।
अष्टविंशतिसंख्या वा होमं कुर्यात् पृथक् पृथक् ॥११॥
11. aṣṭottaraśataṃ vahnau juhuyād vidhipūrvakam .
aṣṭaviṃśatisaṃkhyā vā homaṃ kuryāt pṛthak pṛthak.
11. aṣṭottaraśatam vahnau juhuyāt vidhipūrvakam
aṣṭaviṃśatisaṃkhyā vā homam kuryāt pṛthak pṛthak
11. vidhipūrvakam vahnau aṣṭottaraśatam juhuyāt vā
aṣṭaviṃśatisaṃkhyā homam pṛthak pṛthak kuryāt
11. One should offer one hundred and eight (oblations) into the fire according to the prescribed rules. Alternatively, one should perform the Vedic fire ritual (homa) with twenty-eight oblations, each individually.
मन्त्रेण त्र्यम्बकेनाथ तिलान् व्याहृतिभिस्तथा ।
ग्रहहोमं च विधिवत् कुर्याद् क्षेमं ततो भवेत् ॥१२॥
12. mantreṇa tryambakenātha tilān vyāhṛtibhistathā .
grahahomaṃ ca vidhivat kuryād kṣemaṃ tato bhavet.
12. mantreṇa tryambakeṇa atha tilān vyāhṛtibhiḥ tathā
grahahomam ca vidhivat kuryāt kṣemam tataḥ bhavet
12. One should perform the planetary oblation (graha homa) using the Tryambaka mantra, as well as sesamum seeds and the Vyāhṛtis, all according to the prescribed method. From this, welfare will certainly result.
अभिषेकं च जातस्य तत्पित्रोश्चापि मन्त्रवित् ।
कुर्यात् ततो यथाशक्ति ब्राह्मणान् भोजयेत् सुधीः ॥१३॥
13. abhiṣekaṃ ca jātasya tatpitroścāpi mantravit .
kuryāt tato yathāśakti brāhmaṇān bhojayet sudhīḥ.
13. abhiṣekam ca jātasya tatpitroḥ ca api mantravit
kuryāt tataḥ yathāśakti brāhmaṇān bhojayet sudhīḥ
13. And the expert in mantras (mantravit) should perform the ritual anointing for the newborn and for its parents as well. Thereafter, the wise person (sudhīḥ) should feed Brahmins according to his or her means.
