अथ भाग्यभावं विप्र फलं वक्ष्ये तवाऽग्रतः ।
सबलो भाग्यपे भाग्ये जातो भाग्ययुतो भवेत् ॥१॥
1. atha bhāgyabhāvaṃ vipra phalaṃ vakṣye tavā'grataḥ .

1. Now, O Brahmin, I shall declare before you the results concerning the house of fortune (bhāgya bhāva). If the lord of the 9th house is strong and situated in the 9th house, one born (under such a configuration) becomes endowed with great fortune.
भाग्यस्थानगते जीवे यदीशे केन्द्रसंअस्थिते ।
लग्नेशे बलसंयुक्ते बहुभाग्ययुतो भवेत् ॥२॥
2. bhāgyasthānagate jīve yadīśe kendrasaṃasthite .

2. If Jupiter is situated in the house of fortune (bhāgya sthāna), and its lord is in a quadrant house (kendra), and the lord of the ascendant is endowed with strength, then one becomes greatly fortunate.
भाग्येशे बलसंयुक्ते भाग्ये भृगुसमन्विते ।
लग्नात् केन्द्रगते जीवे पिता भाग्यसमन्वितः ॥३॥
3. bhāgyeśe balasaṃyukte bhāgye bhṛgusamanvite .

3. If the lord of the house of fortune (bhāgya) is endowed with strength, the house of fortune (bhāgya) is associated with Venus, and Jupiter is located in an angular house (kendra) from the ascendant, then the father will be endowed with good fortune.
भाग्यस्थानाद् द्वितीये वा सुखे भौमसमन्विते ।
भाग्येशे नीचराशिस्थे पिता निर्धन एव हि ॥४॥
4. bhāgyasthānād dvitīye vā sukhe bhaumasamanvite .

4. If the lord of the house of fortune (bhāgya) is located in the second house from the house of fortune, or if the fourth house (house of comfort) is associated with Mars, or if the lord of the house of fortune (bhāgya) is situated in a debilitated sign, then the father will surely be poor.
भाग्येशे परमोच्चस्थे भाग्यांशे जीवसंयुते ।
लग्नाच्चतुष्टये शुक्रे तत्पिता दीर्घजीवनः ॥५॥

5. If the lord of the house of fortune (bhāgya) is in its highest exaltation (paramoccaste), the ninth house (bhāgya)'s divisional chart (bhāgyāṃśa) is associated with Jupiter, and Venus is in an angular house (kendra) from the ascendant, then his father will have a long life.
भाग्येशे केन्द्रभावस्ये गुरुणा च निरीक्षिते ।
तत्पिता वाहनैर्युक्तो राजा वा तत्समो भवेत् ॥६॥
6. bhāgyeśe kendrabhāvasye guruṇā ca nirīkṣite .
tatpitā vāhanairyukto rājā vā tatsamo bhavet.

6. If the lord of the house of fortune (bhāgya) is situated in an angular house (kendra bhāva) and is aspected by Jupiter, then his father will possess conveyances and will be a king or equal to a king.
भाग्येशे कर्मभावस्थे कर्मेशे भाग्यराशिगे ।
शुभदृष्टे धनाढ्यश्च कीर्तिमांस्तत्पिता भवेत् ॥७॥
7. bhāgyeśe karmabhāvasthe karmeśe bhāgyarāśige .

7. If the lord of the house of fortune (bhāgya) is situated in the house of action/profession (karma bhāva), and the lord of the house of action (karma) is in the house of fortune (bhāgya rāśi), and these are aspected by benefics, then his father will be wealthy and famous.
परमोच्चांशगे सूर्ये भाग्येशे लाभसंस्थिते ।
धर्मष्ठो नृपवात्सल्यः पितृभक्तो भवेन्नरः ॥८॥
8. paramoccāṃśage sūrye bhāgyeśe lābhasaṃsthite .
dharmaṣṭho nṛpavātsalyaḥ pitṛbhakto bhavennaraḥ.

dharmaṣṭhaḥ nṛpavātsalyaḥ pitṛbhaktaḥ bhavet naraḥ
8. When the Sun (sūrya) is in its highest exaltation and the lord of the ninth house (bhāgyeśa) is situated in the eleventh house, the person (nara) will be devoted to righteousness (dharma), affectionate towards the king, and dedicated to his father (pitṛbhakta).
लग्नात्त्रिकोणगे सूर्ये भाग्येशे सप्तमस्थिते ।
गुरुणा सहिते दृष्टे पितृभक्तिसमन्वितः ॥९॥
9. lagnāttrikoṇage sūrye bhāgyeśe saptamasthite .
guruṇā sahite dṛṣṭe pitṛbhaktisamanvitaḥ.

9. When the Sun (sūrya) is in a trine house (trikoṇa) from the ascendant (lagna), and the lord of the ninth house (bhāgyeśa) is situated in the seventh house, being conjoined with or aspected by Jupiter (guru), the person will be endowed with devotion to his father (pitṛbhakti).
भाग्येशे धनभावस्थे धनेशे भाग्यराशिगे ।
द्वात्रिंशात्परतो भाग्यं वाहनं कीर्तिसम्भवः ॥१०॥
10. bhāgyeśe dhanabhāvasthe dhaneśe bhāgyarāśige .
dvātriṃśātparato bhāgyaṃ vāhanaṃ kīrtisambhavaḥ.

10. When the lord of the ninth house (bhāgyeśa) is situated in the second house and the lord of the second house (dhaneśa) is situated in the ninth house (bhāgya-rāśi), fortune (bhāgya) will arise after the age of thirty-two, along with the acquisition of vehicles and fame (kīrti).
लग्नेशे भाग्यराशिस्थे षष्ठेशेन समन्विते ।
अन्योन्यवैरं ब्रुवते जनकः कुत्सितो भवेत् ॥११॥
11. lagneśe bhāgyarāśisthe ṣaṣṭheśena samanvite .
anyonyavairaṃ bruvate janakaḥ kutsito bhavet.

11. When the lord of the ascendant (lagneśa) is situated in the ninth house (bhāgya-rāśi) and is conjoined with the lord of the sixth house, astrologers declare that there will be mutual enmity, and the father will be contemptible.
कर्माधिपेन सहितो विक्रमेशोऽपि निर्बलः ।
भाग्यपो नीचमूढस्थो योगो भिक्षाशनप्रदः ॥१२॥
12. karmādhipena sahito vikrameśo'pi nirbalaḥ .
bhāgyapo nīcamūḍhastho yogo bhikṣāśanapradaḥ.
12. karmādhipena sahitaḥ vikrameśaḥ api nirbalaḥ
bhāgyapaḥ nīcamūḍhasthaḥ yogaḥ bhikṣāśanapradaḥ
12. If the lord of the third house (vikrameśa) is weak and conjoined with the lord of the tenth house, and the lord of the ninth house (bhāgyapa) is in its debilitation sign and combust (mūḍha), this combination (yoga) leads to a life of begging for food.
षष्ठाष्टमव्यये भानू रन्ध्रेशे भाग्यसंयुते ।
व्ययेशे लग्नराशिस्थे षष्ठेशे पञ्चमे स्थिते ॥१३॥
13. ṣaṣṭhāṣṭamavyaye bhānū randhreśe bhāgyasaṃyute .
vyayeśe lagnarāśisthe ṣaṣṭheśe pañcame sthite.

13. If the Sun is in the 6th, 8th, or 12th house, and the lord of the 8th house is associated with the lord of the 9th house, and the lord of the 12th house is in the ascendant, and the lord of the 6th house is in the 5th house (this indicates a specific astrological condition, with the prediction to follow in subsequent verses).
जातस्य जननात्पूर्वं जनकस्य मृतिर्भवेत् ।
रन्ध्रस्थानगते सूर्ये रन्ध्रेशे भाग्यभावगे ॥१४॥
14. jātasya jananātpūrvaṃ janakasya mṛtirbhavet .
randhrasthānagate sūrye randhreśe bhāgyabhāvage.

14. If the Sun is in the 8th house, and the lord of the 8th house is situated in the 9th house, then the native's father will die before the native's birth.
जातस्य प्रथमाब्दे तु पितुर्मरणमादिशेत् ।
व्ययेशे भाग्यराशिस्थे नीचांशे भाग्यनायके ॥१५॥
15. jātasya prathamābde tu piturmaraṇamādiśet .
vyayeśe bhāgyarāśisthe nīcāṃśe bhāgyanāyake.

15. One should predict the death of the native's father in the native's first year of life if the lord of the 12th house is situated in the 9th house, and the lord of the 9th house is in a debilitated sign.
तृतीये षोडशे वर्षे जनकस्य मृतिर्भवेत् ।
लग्नेशे नाशराशिस्थे रन्ध्रेशे भानुसंयुते ॥१६॥
16. tṛtīye ṣoḍaśe varṣe janakasya mṛtirbhavet .
lagneśe nāśarāśisthe randhreśe bhānusaṃyute.

16. The father's death will occur in the 3rd or 16th year if the ascendant lord is situated in the 8th house and the lord of the 8th house is conjoined with the Sun.
द्वितीये द्वादशे वर्षे पितुर्मरणमादिशेत् ।
भाग्याद्रन्ध्रगते राहौ भाग्याद्भाग्यगते रवौ ॥१७॥
17. dvitīye dvādaśe varṣe piturmaraṇamādiśet .
bhāgyādrandhragate rāhau bhāgyādbhāgyagate ravau.

bhāgyāt randhragate rāhau bhāgyāt bhāgyagate ravau
17. One should predict the father's death in the 2nd or 12th year if Rāhu is situated in the 4th house (8th from the 9th), and the Sun is situated in the 5th house (9th from the 9th).
षोडशेऽष्टादशे वर्षे जनकस्य मृतिर्भवेत् ।
राहुणा सहिते सूर्ये चन्द्राद्भाग्यगते शनौ ॥१८॥
18. ṣoḍaśe'ṣṭādaśe varṣe janakasya mṛtirbhavet .
rāhuṇā sahite sūrye candrādbhāgyagate śanau.
18. ṣoḍaśe aṣṭādaśe varṣe janakasya mṛtiḥ bhavet
rāhuṇā sahite sūrye candrāt bhāgyagate śanau
18. The death of the father will occur in the sixteenth or eighteenth year, when the Sun is conjoined with Rahu and Saturn is in the ninth house from the Moon.
सप्तमैकोनविंशाब्दे तातस्य मरणं ध्रुवम् ।
भाग्येशे व्ययराशिस्थे व्ययेशे भाग्यराशिगे ॥१९॥
19. saptamaikonaviṃśābde tātasya maraṇaṃ dhruvam .
bhāgyeśe vyayarāśisthe vyayeśe bhāgyarāśige.
19. saptama ekonaviṃśa abde tātasya maraṇam dhruvam
bhāgyeśe vyayarāśisthe vyayeśe bhāgyarāśige
19. The father's death is certain in the seventh or nineteenth year, when the lord of the ninth house is situated in the twelfth house, and the lord of the twelfth house is situated in the ninth house.
वदाब्धिमितवर्षाच्च पितुर्मरणमादिशेत् ।
रव्यंशे च स्थिते चन्द्रे लग्नेशे रन्ध्रसंयुते ॥२०॥
20. vadābdhimitavarṣācca piturmaraṇamādiśet .
ravyaṃśe ca sthite candre lagneśe randhrasaṃyute.
20. vada abdhi mita varṣāt ca pituḥ maraṇam ādiśet ravi
aṃśe ca sthite candre lagna īśe randhra saṃyute
20. One should predict the death of the father from the forty-fourth year, and when the Moon is situated in the navamsha of the Sun, and the lord of the ascendant is conjoined with the eighth house.
पञ्चत्रिंशैकचत्वारिंशद्वर्षे मरणं पितुः ।
पितृस्थानाधिपे सूर्ये मन्दभौमसमन्विते ॥२१॥
21. pañcatriṃśaikacatvāriṃśadvarṣe maraṇaṃ pituḥ .
pitṛsthānādhipe sūrye mandabhaumasamanvite.
21. pañcatriṃśa ekacatvāriṃśat varṣe maraṇam pituḥ
pitṛ sthāna adhipe sūrye manda bhauma samanvite
21. The father's death occurs in the thirty-fifth or forty-first year, when the Sun, being the lord of the house of the father (the ninth house), is conjoined with Saturn and Mars.
पञ्चाशद्वत्सरे प्राप्ते जनकस्य मृतिर्भवेत् ।
भाग्यात् सप्तमगे सूर्ये भ्रातृसप्तमगस्तमः ॥२२॥
22. pañcāśadvatsare prāpte janakasya mṛtirbhavet .
bhāgyāt saptamage sūrye bhrātṛsaptamagastamaḥ.
22. pañcāśat vatsare prāpte janakasya mṛtiḥ bhavet
bhāgyāt saptamage sūrye bhrātṛ saptama gaḥ tamaḥ
22. The father's death will occur when the fiftieth year is attained, and the Sun is in the seventh house from the ninth (i.e., the third house from the ascendant), and Rahu (tamas) is in the seventh house from the third house (i.e., the ninth house from the ascendant).
षष्ठेऽब्दे पञ्चविंशाब्दे पितुर्मरणमादिशेत् ।
रन्ध्रजामित्रगे मन्दे मन्दाज्जामित्रगे रवौ ॥२३॥
23. ṣaṣṭhe'bde pañcaviṃśābde piturmaraṇamādiśet .
randhrajāmitrage mande mandājjāmitrage ravau.
23. ṣaṣṭhe abde pañcaviṃśābde pituḥ maraṇam ādiśet
randhrajāmitrage mande mandāt jāmitrage ravau
23. One should predict the father's death in the sixth or twenty-fifth year if Saturn (manda) is located in the eighth house or the seventh house, or if the Sun (ravi) is located in the seventh house from Saturn.
त्रिंशैकविंशे षड्विंशे जनकस्य मृतिर्भवेत् ।
भाग्येशे नीचराशिस्थे तदीशे भाग्यराशिगे ॥२४॥
24. triṃśaikaviṃśe ṣaḍviṃśe janakasya mṛtirbhavet .
bhāgyeśe nīcarāśisthe tadīśe bhāgyarāśige.
24. triṃśaikaviṃśe ṣaḍviṃśe janakasya mṛtiḥ bhavet
bhāgyeśe nīcarāśisthe tadīśe bhāgyarāśige
24. The death of the father may occur in the thirty-first or twenty-sixth year if the lord of the ninth house (bhāgyeśa) is situated in a debilitated sign, and the lord of that debilitated sign is located in the ninth house.
षड्विंशेऽब्दे त्रयस्त्रिंशे पितुर्मरणमादिशेत् ।
एवं जातस्य दैवज्ञो फलं ज्ञात्वा विनिर्दिशेत् ॥२५॥
25. ṣaḍviṃśe'bde trayastriṃśe piturmaraṇamādiśet .
evaṃ jātasya daivajño phalaṃ jñātvā vinirdiśet.
25. ṣaḍviṃśe abde trayastriṃśe pituḥ maraṇam ādiśet
evam jātasya daivajñaḥ phalam jñātvā vinirdiśet
25. One should predict the father's death in the twenty-sixth or thirty-third year. An astrologer (daivajña) should, in this manner, ascertain the outcome for the native and then declare it.
परमोच्चांशगे शुक्रे भाग्येशेन समन्विते ।
भ्रातृस्थाने शनियुते बहुभाग्याधिपो भवेत् ॥२६॥
26. paramoccāṃśage śukre bhāgyeśena samanvite .
bhrātṛsthāne śaniyute bahubhāgyādhipo bhavet.

26. When Venus (śukra) is in its highest exaltation degree and associated with the lord of the ninth house (bhāgyeśa), and when the third house (bhrātṛsthāna) is conjoined with Saturn (śani), the native will possess great fortune.
गुरुणा संयुते भाग्ये तदीशे केन्द्रराशिगे ।
विंशद्वर्षात् परं चैव बहुभाग्यं विनिर्दिशेत् ॥२७॥
27. guruṇā saṃyute bhāgye tadīśe kendrarāśige .
viṃśadvarṣāt paraṃ caiva bahubhāgyaṃ vinirdiśet.
27. guruṇā saṃyute bhāgye tadīśe kendrarāśige viṃśat
varṣāt param ca eva bahubhāgyam vinirdiśet
27. One should predict abundant fortune after twenty years if the ninth house (bhāgya) is conjoined with Jupiter (guru), and the lord of that ninth house is located in a quadrant house (kendra).
परमोच्चांशगे सौम्ये भाग्येशे भाग्यराशिगे ।
षट्त्रिंशाच्च परं चैव बहुभाग्यं विनिर्दिशेत् ॥२८॥
28. paramoccāṃśage saumye bhāgyeśe bhāgyarāśige .
ṣaṭtriṃśācca paraṃ caiva bahubhāgyaṃ vinirdiśet.

ṣaṭtriṃśāt ca param ca eva bahubhāgyam vinirdiśet
28. When Mercury is in its highest exaltation, and the lord of the ninth house is situated in the ninth house itself, one should predict great prosperity and much good fortune from the age of thirty-six onwards.
लग्नेशे भाग्यराशिस्थे भाग्येशे लग्नसंयुते ।
गुरुणा संयुते द्यूने धनवाहनलाभकृत् ॥२९॥
29. lagneśe bhāgyarāśisthe bhāgyeśe lagnasaṃyute .
guruṇā saṃyute dyūne dhanavāhanalābhakṛt.

29. When the lord of the ascendant is situated in the house of fortune (the ninth house), and the lord of the ninth house is conjoined with the ascendant (lord), and Jupiter is conjoined in the seventh house, then one gains wealth and conveyances.
भाग्याद्भाग्यवतो राहुस्तदीशे निधनं गते ।
भाग्येशे नीचराशिस्थे भाग्यहीनो भवेन्नरः ॥३०॥
30. bhāgyādbhāgyavato rāhustadīśe nidhanaṃ gate .
bhāgyeśe nīcarāśisthe bhāgyahīno bhavennaraḥ.
30. bhāgyāt bhāgyavataḥ rāhuḥ tat-īśe nidhanam gate
bhāgyeśe nīcarāśisthe bhāgyahīnaḥ bhavet naraḥ
30. When Rahu is in the ninth house, and the lord of the ninth house has gone to the eighth house, and also when the lord of the ninth house is situated in a debilitated sign, then the person becomes devoid of good fortune.
भाग्यस्थानगते मन्दे शशिना च समन्विते ।
लग्नेशे नीचराशिस्थे भिक्षाशी च नरो भवेत् ॥३१॥
31. bhāgyasthānagate mande śaśinā ca samanvite .
lagneśe nīcarāśisthe bhikṣāśī ca naro bhavet.

31. When Saturn is situated in the house of fortune (the ninth house) and accompanied by the Moon, and when the lord of the ascendant is situated in a debilitated sign, then the person becomes a beggar.
एवं भाग्यफलं विप्र संक्षेपात् कथितं मया ।
लग्नेशभाग्यभावेशस्थित्याऽन्यदपि निर्दिशेत् ॥३२॥
32. evaṃ bhāgyaphalaṃ vipra saṃkṣepāt kathitaṃ mayā .
lagneśabhāgyabhāveśasthityā'nyadapi nirdiśet.
32. evam bhāgyaphalam vipra saṃkṣepāt kathitam mayā
lagneśabhāgyabhāveśasthityā anyat api nirdiśet
32. O Brahmin, thus have I briefly explained the results of fortune. One should also predict other outcomes based on the positions of the lord of the ascendant and the lord of the ninth house.
