And now, I will explain to you the results pertaining to the house of action (karma). Listen carefully, Maitreya, to the essence of what has been spoken by Brahmā, Garga, and other sages.
सबले कर्मभावेशे स्वोच्चे स्वांशे स्वराशिगे ।
जातस्तातसुखेनाढ्यो यशस्वी शुभकर्मकृत् ॥२॥

2. sabale karmabhāveśe svocce svāṃśe svarāśige .

If the lord of the house of action (karma) is strong, situated in its sign of exaltation, its own divisional chart position (varga), or its own zodiacal sign, the native born will be blessed with happiness from their father, be famous, and perform auspicious deeds.
कर्माधिपो बलोनश्चेत् कर्मवैकल्यमादिशेत् ।
सैहिः केन्द्रत्रिकोणस्थो ज्योतिष्टोमादियागकृत् ॥३॥

If the lord of one's actions (karma) or profession is weak, it indicates a deficiency or fault in one's profession. If Rahu is situated in an angular (kendra) or trinal (trikoṇa) house, one performs elaborate Vedic rituals (yajña) like the Jyotiṣṭoma.
कर्मेशे शुभसंयुक्ते शुभस्थानगते तथा ।
राजद्वारे च वाणिज्ये सदा लाभोऽन्यथान्यथा ॥४॥

4. karmeśe śubhasaṃyukte śubhasthānagate tathā .

If the lord of the house of action (karma) is associated with benefics and is also situated in an auspicious house, then there will always be gain in government affairs and trade. Otherwise, the results will be contrary.
दशमे पापसंयुक्ते लाभे पापसमन्विते ।
दुष्कृतिं लभते मर्त्यः स्वजनानां विदूषकः ॥५॥

5. daśame pāpasaṃyukte lābhe pāpasamanvite .
duṣkṛtiṃ labhate martyaḥ svajanānāṃ vidūṣakaḥ.

If the 10th house is associated with malefic planets, and the 11th house (lābha, house of gains) is also connected with malefics, the native commits evil deeds and becomes a slanderer of their own relatives.
कर्मेशे नाशराशिस्थे राहुणा संयुते तथा ।
जनद्वेषी महामूर्खो दुष्कृतिं लभते नरः ॥६॥

If the lord of the 10th house is situated in the 12th house (nāśarāśi) and conjoined with Rahu, then the person becomes hateful towards people, a great fool, and prone to committing misdeeds.

द्यूनेशे पापसंयुते शिश्नोदरपरायणः ॥७॥

If the lord of the 10th house is situated in the 7th house (dyūnarāśi) and conjoined with Saturn (Manda) and Mars (Bhauma), and the lord of the 7th house is also conjoined with malefic planets, the person becomes excessively devoted to sensual and gastronomical pleasures.
तुङ्गराशिं समाश्रित्य कर्मेशे गुरुसंयुते ।
भाग्येशे कर्मराशिस्थे मानैश्वर्यप्रतापवान् ॥८॥

8. tuṅgarāśiṃ samāśritya karmeśe gurusaṃyute .

If the lord of the 10th house occupies its exaltation sign (tuṅgarāśi) and is conjoined with Jupiter (guru), and simultaneously the lord of the 9th house (bhāgya bhava) is situated in the 10th house (karma rāśi), the person becomes endowed with honor, prosperity, and great influence.
लाभेशे कर्मराशिस्थे कर्मेशे लग्नसंयुते ।
तावुभौ केन्द्रगौ वापि सुखजीवनभाग् भवेत् ॥९॥

If the lord of the 11th house is situated in the 10th house, and the lord of the 10th house is conjoined with the ascendant (lagna), or if both these lords are in angular houses (kendra), then the person will certainly lead a happy life.
कर्मेशे बलसंयुक्ते मीने गुरुसमन्विते ।
वस्त्राभरणसौख्यादि लभते नात्र संशयः ॥१०॥

If the lord of the 10th house is endowed with strength and is conjoined with Jupiter (guru) in the sign of Pisces (Mīna), the person will obtain clothes, ornaments, and various forms of happiness; there is no doubt about this.
लाभस्थानगते सूर्ये राहुभौमसमन्विते ।
रविपुत्रेण संयुक्ते कर्मच्छेत्ता भवेन्नरः ॥११॥

11. lābhasthānagate sūrye rāhubhaumasamanvite .

When the Sun is situated in the house of gain, accompanied by Rahu and Mars, and conjoined with Saturn, that person becomes one who destroys (past) actions (karma).
मीने जीवे भृगुयुते लग्नेशे बलसंयुते ।
स्वोच्चराशिगते चन्द्रे सम्यग्ज्ञानार्थवान् भवेत् ॥१२॥

12. mīne jīve bhṛguyute lagneśe balasaṃyute .

When Jupiter is in Pisces, accompanied by Venus, and the lord of the Ascendant is endowed with strength, and the Moon is situated in its sign of exaltation, that person becomes endowed with perfect knowledge and wealth.
केन्द्रेशे लाभराशिस्थे लाभेशे लग्नसंस्थिते ।
कर्मराशिस्थिते शुक्रे रत्नवान् स नरो भवेत् ॥१३॥

13. kendreśe lābharāśisthe lābheśe lagnasaṃsthite .

When the lord of an angular house (kendra) is situated in the house of gain, and the lord of gain is positioned in the Ascendant, and Venus is in the house of action (karma), that person becomes endowed with jewels.
केन्द्रत्रिकोणगे कर्मनाथे स्वोच्चसमाश्रिते ।
गुरुणा सहिते दृष्टे स कर्मसहितो भवेत् ॥१४॥

14. kendratrikoṇage karmanāthe svoccasamāśrite .

When the lord of action (karma) is situated in an angular (kendra) or trine (trikoṇa) house, occupying its sign of exaltation, and is conjoined with Jupiter and aspected by Jupiter, that person becomes one engaged in significant actions (karma).
कर्मेशे लग्नभावस्थे लग्नेशेन समन्विते ।
केन्द्रत्रिकोणगे चन्द्रे सत्कर्मनिरतो भवेत् ॥१५॥

When the lord of action (karma) is situated in the Ascendant house, accompanied by the lord of the Ascendant, and the Moon is in an angular (kendra) or trine (trikoṇa) house, that person becomes devoted to virtuous actions (karma).
कर्मस्थानगते मन्दे नीचखेचरसंयुते ।
कर्मांशे पापसंयुक्ते कर्महीनो भवेन्नरः ॥१६॥

16. karmasthānagate mande nīcakhecarasaṃyute .

If Saturn (manda) is in the house of action (karmasthāna) and conjoined with a debilitated planet, and if the tenth house Navāṃśa (karmāṃśa) is associated with a malefic planet, then the person will be devoid of livelihood (karma).
कर्मेशे नाशराशिस्थे रन्ध्रेशे कर्मसंस्थिते ।
पापग्रहेण संयुक्ते दुष्कर्म निरतो भवेत् ॥१७॥

If the lord of the house of action (karmeśa) is situated in the twelfth house (nāśarāśistha), and the lord of the eighth house (randhreśa) is located in the house of action (karma), and this combination is associated with a malefic planet, then the person will be engaged in wicked deeds (duṣkarma).

If the lord of the house of action (karmeśa) is in a debilitated sign (nīcarāśistha), and a malefic planet (pāpakhecara) is situated in the house of action (karma), and another malefic is located in the seventh house (which is the tenth house from the tenth house of action), then one should predict a deficiency in livelihood (karma).
कर्मस्थानगते चन्द्रे तदीशे तत्त्रिकोणगे ।
लग्नेशे केन्द्रभावस्थे सत्कीर्तिसहितो भवेत् ॥१९॥

If the Moon (candra) is in the house of action (karmasthāna), and its lord (tadīśa) is in a trine (trikoṇa) from it, and the lord of the ascendant (lagneśa) is situated in an angular house (kendrabhāvastha), then the person will be endowed with good fame (satkīrti).

देवेन्द्रगुरुणा दृष्टे सत्कीर्तिसहितो भवेत् ॥२०॥

If the lord of the house of gain (lābheśa) is situated in the house of action (karmabhāva), and the lord of the house of action (karmeśa) is endowed with strength, and this combination is aspected by Jupiter (devendraguru), then the person will possess good fame (satkīrti).
कर्मस्थानाधिपे भाग्ये लग्नेशे कर्मसंयुते ।
लग्नात् पञ्चमगे चन्द्रे ख्यातनामा नरो भवेत् ॥२१॥

If the lord of the 10th house (karma-sthāna) is situated in the 9th house (bhāgya-sthāna), and the lord of the ascendant (lagna-īśa) is associated with the 10th house, and the Moon is in the 5th house from the ascendant, then a person becomes renowned.
इति कर्मफलं प्रोक्तं संक्षेपेण द्विजोत्तम ।
लग्नकर्मेशसम्बन्धादूह्यमन्यदपि स्वयम् ॥२२॥

Thus, O best among the twice-born (dvijottama), the results of actions (karma-phalam) have been briefly explained. One should also infer other outcomes oneself from the connections of the ascendant (lagna) and the lord of the 10th house (karma-īśa).
